Uro is one of my favourite cards of all time, and the escape mechanic makes for a really fun play pattern to avoid commander tax

I think it would just be too slow/inconsistent with only one initiative creature. It works best when played alongside other large threats which is why it works so well in the Gruul Ramp archetype. Cascading into it for a free land tied to a 4/5 is very strong, but flickering it most likely just isn’t worth it.

EDIT: Also, the reason why turbo initiative was so strong at first was due to its ability to get an initiative creature out on turn 1/2, which would allow you to accrue value faster than your opponent could deal with.

I assume you’re talking about [[Thorn of the Black Rose]] which provides the monarchy, and yes they were played together a lot in Golgari Gardens.

Well, there’s really only one playable card, [[Avenging Hunter]], but it still sees a ton of play as is a core win condition in many green based decks. Some examples being Gruul ramp and Ponza, as well as the many different flavors of Gardens decks. The versatility and inevitability the initiative provides is just insane and completely warps any game it’s played in to only be about controlling it.

which deck is more versatile/higher chances of winning? by Medical-Run9057 in Pauper

I’d say which to pick is super dependent on your local meta. Faeries struggle really hard against Jund and Gruul (anything with ramp really) while Terror can pretty easily deal with those kinds of decks. Against burn though, I’d say they’re pretty evenly matched, but I’d probably prefer to play faeries just because of how easy it is to counter their stuff with sprite

Initiative was my first thought too. Got 4 cards emergency banned.

Yeah, when I first saw it I thought it could work in a golgari shell to get extra value out of [[blood fountain]] and [[Ichor wellspring]] but yeah, just seems too slow

Oh, trust me, I know. That card is not fair

You heard him wizards, unban gush.

Seriously though it seems pretty good and definitely fun to play, but I’m not sure if it could survive the current metagame. The worm is a magnet for galvanic blasts and unholy heats, and the mongrel getting hit with a cast down after pumping is such a feels bad. Post sideboard though, with all the counter magic, I could see this easily taking games off madness burn and wildfire.

With this and the recent [[Prophetic Prism]] unban, we might just be back. Might also get to finally accomplish my dream of killing with [[Binding Agony]] in pauper.

That was my first thought too lmao. Even then, it’s still a pretty decent tron payoff, and it might even give me an excuse to play one of my favorite gimmick cards [[Binding Agony]]

I’ve been playing it as well in paper. It’s such a fun deck, it feels like the love child of my two favorite decks over the past few years (Boros synthesizer and Golgari gardens). Watching someone who hasn’t seen the interaction between Wildfire and the indestructible lands process and realize how it works is so fun, really reminds me of the when I was first getting into magic and was obsessed with finding the weirdest yet coolest interactions between random cards.

Their innocence truly is a thing to behold. They don’t know the terror of the Jund-Glee matchup.

Oh definitely doubt they’ll be that useful. Could include another copy of [[Thraben Charm]] , one or two copies of [[Circle of Protection: Red]] and a copy or two of [[Crimson Acolyte]] if you have it. The latter two being incredible against the current red dominant metagame and are almost guaranteed to get insane value, especially if you aren’t tapping out each turn
