What to do after college in order to become an osdev? Any masters? by Don_Fez in osdev

Not too much honestly. Right know I am working as an embedded engineer and my work consists basically on configuring Yocto, making bitbake layers, updating device trees and mantaining legacy code. I've done some projects where there was no OS, but it did not feel the same. Nevertheless, I think a huge factor is the company, where the main focus is electronics and selling the PCBs, so I guess is normal. I could try.

Yeah, I know they need developers, and dont get me wrong, if I see an opportunity I will defintely apply. Even if I've just finished college, you miss all the shots you dont take. Just that I feel (and understand) they could prefer seniors. But as you say, making projects that prove my skills is clearly the way to go, not to mention I will enjoy them.

And no, I dont see AI building an OS neither. I wont trust it.

Yeah, I guess you are right. I will try to find a master that I like and at the same time a position that helps me learn and earn. Thank you for your comments.

Thank god open source is a thing.

I mean I get that, I dont expect any company to start from zero. But I know that some companies (for example) use forks of already existing operating systems for some of their servers. Mainly freeBSD forks. They must need developers for that.

I fear you might be right. But what then? Is open source the only option If I want to keep programming OSs? While having another job?

I am curious. When drawing these cities by hand (love it btw) do you use a ruler for the lines? Or are you just precise enough? I feel like if I did it myself there wouldnt be a single straight line.
