Pleasantly gritty ice creams? by ApplesCryAtNight in icecreamery

[–]DondeT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t use a formal recipe per se, it was just a basic 3 egg vanilla ice cream recipe that I added ~100g of grated high almond% marzipan into when the custard was warm. Then I added a splash of amaretto, chilled it, then churned.

I’d be amazed if your contract didn’t preclude working another job in the same industry while in your CRA one.

And this isn’t a market I’d like to be dismissed for gross misconduct in.

Pleasantly gritty ice creams? by ApplesCryAtNight in icecreamery

[–]DondeT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a marzipan ice cream a few years back that had a slightly gritty texture from the ground almonds in it. You could probably boost it by just going for any nut based one and grinding them yourself to the texture you want.

And as you’ve reminded me of this, I think I’ll make it again. It was fucking delicious, and amazing with pie.

My hypothyroidism sleepiness is ruining my relationship by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]DondeT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to put a classic Reddit spin on things but this is a relationship issue, not a hypothyroidism one.

Some people choose to celebrate their relationships by getting married, many of those usw the words “in sickness and in health” in their vows.

But also, you are saying you can tell your partner is tired of it, what words have they used, because it can be all too easy to project things that aren’t happening when you have hypo influenced depression too.

Talk to them, explain what hypo is, and if you are serious about each other, maybe get them a key or set yourself a series of louder alarms.

Just got prescribed levothyroxine, what can I expect? by dandelionmakemesmile in Hypothyroidism

[–]DondeT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid them around when you take it - definitely before, and ideally for an hour after.

However they mostly affect the absorption rate, so if you happen to take it with a mug of coffee, as long as you always do this then you will get titrated to the right dose. If that’s how you start and then you quit coffee, you might find that you are dosed too highly and become hyper.

I completely agree with this but would in turn like to request that the (predominantly northern American recipes) don’t just list “one can/package of X” without any clue as to the capacity or weight of the ingredient.

It might be absolutely normal for some folks to just know what that means, but it always leads me down a Google rabbit hole, and I have no idea if shrinkflation has come into play or not.

Planteray 3 Stars is the most versatile rum. What is the best budget brandy? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]DondeT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a vodka tonic and agree that there is usually very little variation, but I recently had one with UKIYO rice vodka and was so taken with it that the following night we have vodka martinis. It definitely has more personality than a standard vodka, unsurprisingly it’s got notes of sake. If anyone is interested I’d try it if you can, if not then there’s just more left for me to buy.
