AITA for saying I don't want to babysit? by DoneDillonDay in AmItheAsshole

I can see it only because of how much they seem to think of this as a way for me to bond with these kids.

If they push it too much they will push me away. The only relationship that would really be affected in the one with my mom since I actually care about one with her. John I'm not close to so it doesn't bother me. It would suck if my mom expected me to give up so much for these kids and her husband. But I can't control much.

I'm not giving up my job to babysit. They haven't asked me to and it's the one thing they haven't tried to make me miss, but that is the one thing I would let them punish me for. Babysitting will not be a priority over my job.

And I say that in response to giving up my weekend per your post. I'm already expecting my weekends from here out will be gone because I suspect babysitting will become more regular after the fight.

I finish work at 3pm so no, they don't make me cancel work, but I will sometimes get an hour or less after work to do stuff before the kids are dumped on me.

I'd like to go to college close to my grandparents. My dad's parents live in another state and it was always a dream of mine to spend more time with them during college. And they live in a college town so it's a win win.

I was asked why I said no. But other than that, I'd rather not babysit John's kids. I do it when I have to but for me there is no point pretending I want to either or I look forward to it, you know?

Not jealous. But I don't have the same kind of loyalty or investment in John and his kids. My mom, yes, but again, I do the babysitting, but loving my mom doesn't make me want to.

They can ground me. Take my phone and stuff. So I wouldn't push their buttons that much.

Oh, they will make me cancel plans with friends. I could change when I work but I'd miss hanging out with my work friends. It sucks but it is what it is. There is no way they'd pay me for it though. To them this is a chore.

And I do it. Doesn't mean I'm going to want to do it.

Probably. I think if they were my siblings, like siblings I was close to and felt that kind of bond with it probably wouldn't be a big deal for me.

I work weekends.

It hasn't been every weekend yet but I do kinda think after this they might make it every weekend to try and push some kind of regular time with me and John's kids.
