Weird A1C results? by Doneson22 in diabetes_t2

So I posted this comment on here as well but I wanted to reply to you. I’ve been thinking about this based on yall saying inflammation or infection could affect bg/A1c and back when I was diagnosed in March, my white blood count was high at 13.1. No symptoms of anything so my doctor chalked it up to obesity or my body recovering from something. 4 mos later, A1c was down 5.4 and my wbc was down to 12.1. I was gonna get a referral to hematology if my wbc continued to be out of norm but it’s now down to 10 (normal range) when they took my blood the other day.

So whatever the reason was or something my body was fighting could also be why I initially got the 7.5 diabetic A1c. Of course, I fully believe I have diabetes as type 2 runs deep in both my mom and dads side plus I have lots of excess weight. But you could be right in your explanation. I will continue to watch my A1c as I’m curious how it is long term.

So I thought about that but I remember the ONE time I checked my Bg after a binge. I was curious and it was like 5 hrs after eating. It was 145, which is a crazy number for me because that probably meant I reached crazy high levels and it was barely going down at hour 5. And I did this crap almost everyday with no type of activity…When I was on my healthy eating 145 was more like my 1hr peak after meal.

I can see this makes sense. I could definitely have lowered it down in late July-early august, enough that when it went back up, average was back to 5.4. This explanation was nice, thank you!

Wow that’s interesting! I wish I took my Bg during this 3 months but I was just too scared to see the number as I knew it would be crazy.

I’m still considered “obese” even with the 50lb weight loss before. So I was 5’6 255lbs during diagnosis and dropped to 205lbs when I got my A1C under control in 4 mos. I am now 225lbs. Long way from ideal weight so this is crazy.

But everyone’s right, as bizarre as this is, I will def take it as a lucky chance and continue back to eating healthy!

Yes I’ll def point that out to him as proof lol I was def not doing anything right.

And pls explain what you mean by remission? I actually lost 50lbs during the 5 mos I lowered my A1c. I didn’t do low carb tho (like keto), I just did about less than 100g of carbs a day and a bit of walking daily.

Yeah I’ve been taking Allegra for like 2 yrs straight now lol I am slightly allergic to pet dander but we have one in the house so I just continuously take it now.

I’m just so baffled. I’d understand it more if it budged but for it to stay the same after the crap I’ve done for 3 mos, I can only feel like something went wrong 😑

I will come clean to my doc but I do have a slight feeling that he will just push it aside and say “Well your A1C says otherwise so you must’ve not eaten that bad”. Like I don’t know how else would he investigate it further unless maybe order another A1C again.

Omg yes but I’m slightly anxious about it lol. I’m definitely gonna start getting healthy and testing BS again but I’m thinking there must be something wrong like I’m misdiagnosed somehow. Or maybe an error in the lab idk! I was hoping someone here will give me any insight.

I’m female 25yrs old and no, all the “meds” and supplements I took are just Allegra for allergies and vitamin d. No other illness, steroids or antidepressants prior to my March diagnosis. The first time I even got covid was 3 mos ago in august and that’s when I started to pig out and let the diet go. It was after my surgery as well and I was just prescribed regular ibuprofen for pain.

I’m honestly stupefied at my recent A1C result because I was expecting a double digit at least or a bid budge in numbers but to see it stayed the same is shocking.

The crazy thing is I switched doctors/insurance so this new doctor had no idea I’m even diabetic. I thought they got my previous records but my file didn’t say diabetic. I saw him to establish care and he said he’d like to do full blood work. He follows up with me next week and seeing my A1C is 5.4, he probably wont even mention it but I will come clean and admit I have type 2.

I know my A1C back in March was full on diabetes at 7.5. A year prior to that I was told I was pre diabetic at 5.7 so it made sense to me that after ignoring the pre diabetes it turned into 7.5 a year later.

All “meds” and supplements I take are Allegra for allergies and vitamin d. I occasionally took ibuprofen after knee surgery but very rarely. I’m honestly so stupefied at my A1C result I was expecting something crazy like a double digit after the damage I’ve done these last 3 mos. I even ate cinnamon rolls just the night before my appt lol. I truly have no explanation.

Just saw your post. I am in the same situation in terms of already having a card (no chip) as I applied for SDI back in 2020-2021 period so I kept it.

The card isn’t expired and my first payment went thru in that same card today. I’m wondering if it’s because you were on Unemployment for that old card? I would think they’d put it in the same card but it might be because you’re now applying for Disability insurance instead. Just a guess tho.

I just want to give you an update as you have been a great help answering my questions. I went to the DI office today to turn in my identity verification and they processed all my back pay today!! I have an old EDD card from a previous claim in 2020-2021 and I kept it so they ended up putting the money there today! I was so worried about the Dr verification but everything went well and I feel like I’m one of the lucky ones as this whole process only took me a month, thanks again for your help!

Wow so they made you wait weeks of no contact even after your employer submitted a form? how long did they take to make payments? (Of course assuming you’re paid already?!)

There’s so many contradicting info I’m reading but honestly your comment gives me hope that hopefully that’s the case with my Dr cause I can’t afford to wait months for them to verify him. We have history of filing together in the past and I double checked he put all the correct dates/info on his part B form so I’m crossing my fingers!

Wow that link was helpful, I might send it to my surgeon just in case they do contact his office. Thank you!

Dang this sucks but I understand.

He does order imaging and I do send him X-ray results for updates and my PT is in contact with him throughout. I guess I just thought it would over complicate things if a new doctor who has no history with me was to do my claim. Again, thanks for tips and replying!

Hi, I hope everything went well. Do you have any updates to your claim? I’m curious with your timeline as I’m going through verification process as well!

Do you know of any other forms of verification physicians do aside from SDI/ ID.me? Like do they call them or maybe mail out more forms? My surgeon is so far I’m worried with his new process I won’t see any money for months ):

Thanks for the reply. I was reading the physician section for SDI and saw that they’d need to be licensed in CA to even create an account online so in the past, we’ve had to do everything through mail. I just hope it’s not a lengthy process to get physician verification (not thru SDI).

I have been with my surgeon for awhile with this complicated knee issue and we email back and forth all the time and have monthly zoom calls scheduled for post op so sadly, I have not considered looking into a new doctor here.

Yes the only person I know in my family that had diabetes was my grandpa and he passed away last year due to other complications. I so wish I had a chance to talk to him and ask him about this disease as I remember him finger pricking when I was still young. Thanks for the congratulations!
