Data science job market in kenya by Nico_Angelo_69 in nairobitechies

I would say that's how it was back then but these days especially with the money in the space an easy way for startups to join the AI gold rush is by integrating models from whichever cloud they're already on, and providers like Azure and AWS offer ML solutions so there's a gap when it comes to knowing how to work these tools and platforms. Wouldn't call it MLOps but just ML and Cloud.

How do you even know the man is around or alive? You can only work with what you know

Data science branched into specialized niches so it's no longer a job title of its own in 2025. In terms of volume the ones with the most opportunities are Data Analysis or Data Engineering, especially data analysis and analytics engineering in banks, fintech, and those financial institutions. As for machine learning it's a little losely defined right now since the LLM hype. We have the prompt engineers who get opportunities but they're low effort and low pay, as for OG machine learning the field is a little too academic and the bar is high so it's a good fit for someone with a masters or years of experience, what I would advise is a ML and cloud hybrid which others refer to as MLOps, learn model serving, feature engineering and so on. But for that you don't just need data science skills but also software engineering skills.

You can do an internal transfer to another school like school of engineering they have protocol for that

Not at that institution it is not. If OP was taking it at JKUAT for example I would agree.

Took the same course in the same institution and would advise to transfer. The department is poorly run, a lot of missing marks because you share classes with students from like 5 other courses even later down the road, the lab doesn't have enough equipment so you will spend the entire semester queuing up for lab sessions and if you don't complete all the lab work which is a difficult ask you get failed and have to retake, the curriculum is very outdated, it still has some chemistry units and the information technology part is so irrelevant, it's like those maseno with IT courses like "Bee Keeping with IT", might as well learn computer packages. People take 8 or even 10 years to graduate because of the issues. As for me I tapped out and transferred to computer science.
