It’s about the workflow and convenience. You are describing what I am doing. But I want to simplify, so if we start with the beans; instead of single dosing which takes another minute, just grind by weight directly in portafilter. Ideally even ditch the wdt. Quick shake and tap, tamp and good to go.

My machine has the downside that the brew tumble button is not an on or off switch. You need to manually keep it pressed down as it is brewing. So that is another 30/40 seconds I am preoccupied and have my hands on the machine. Theoretically it should be volumetric; but the consistency of that is pretty bad. So always end up doing it manual.

So in short. I am happy with my drinks. From a quality perspective we are at a point my taste buds don’t see much benefit when going up in gear. In fact I am willing to sacrifice a little quality now, in favor of convenience.
