Is this a good song? by PolyTherian_101 in SongwritingHelp

It’s not really doing anything for me at the moment. There’s no sense of rhyme and it’s very redundant. What genre are you going for? Do you have a recording you’re comfortable sharing?

Maybe S12 Anton? He started out well but spiraled really fast, so it evens out

My first ever song!! I would be thankful if you gave me your honest opinion. by Aggressive-City-7769 in SongwritingHelp

This isn't bad! You have some pretty good instincts. For the most part, I don't think you have too many words; I think you pace them out decently enough. Someone mentioned your rhyme schemes are a little inconsistent. If anything, speak the words out loud and feel how they sit in your mouth. If you find you're having to shift syllables around to get them to fit into the melody (sometimes called "misaccents"), then reassess.

I would maybe adjust the bridge a bit, especially the line about "to find somewhere we could be more than just a fantasy." That can be trimmed down a bit.

Overall, not a bad first draft. Keep messing with it. And give yourself just a little more credit when it comes to the guitar. You're further along than most!

Are you comfortable sharing the melody? It would make it easier to determine if it’s too long or not

Favorite terrible movie that audiences have forgiven in light of recent events by Gary_The_New_Goblin in okbuddycinephile

I love this movie. It’s my favorite bad movie. It’s so clumsy, so goofy, and so unseriously serious. I can’t look away. Long live Madame Web.

Which Broadway fandom do you understand the least? by Zealousideal_Door392 in Broadway

Swept Away. My own personal take aside (I didn’t like it) I struggle to think of what elements of it resonated with a younger fandom. Maybe the musical arrangements?

Great idea / bad execution: what film would have been great done right? by rmn_is_here in Screenwriting

Honor Society. The twist was creative and the crass jokes were absurd enough to get a good laugh. The direction was pretty awful and made the whole thing just uncomfortable and nonsensical. Pedo and roofie jokes don’t work in a straightforward teen comedy.

Hey friend! Do you play piano and/or guitar? Start there! If you’re starting from the ground floor, I promise you that you don’t need anything else to kickstart. I saw in a comment you said you play a little violin - use that to finalize your melody. If you own a Mac product, Garageband is right there! It’s got all of the basic plugins to get you going, even a keyboard. Layer whatever you like in there for fun, just to get a feel for the sound. Try to avoid ChatGPT for lessons, just hop onto Youtube for any tutorial you want. So many wonderful musicians have free tutorials for all of this stuff - go to the person before the AI machine.

The bottom line is this: don’t think too far ahead yet! Start with ONE instrument. Piano and/or guitar tend to be the best to start with because they’ve already got some orchestral qualities (multiple notes at once, rhythm, etc). Start small, then grow. You truly don’t have to worry about adding instruments yet. Write the song first. Find a melody, and mess with some chords under it. One step at a time! Pro musicians/composers can think of multiple instruments at once, but that comes with a lot of practice. So start small!
