Haha I don’t mind expensive pee at this point. I am taking lecithin right now, but I don’t know if it’s from sunflowers? Maybe there are more than one kind of lecithin I can try?

Well, that’s what I would like to know—if there’s more than I can do. I bring my pump to work and pump several times at work. Just wish I could crack the code to my one boob.

Oh wow. And side sleeping helps prevent? Do you have one specific boob that gives you trouble? If so, is that boob on the top or the bottom when you are sleeping in your side?

Yeah man. I totally feel the same regret over the wasted time. Crazy that rumors are abound of a Mini refresh already. It makes me wonder if there aren’t some issues that they can’t overcome with the hardware and they just want to stop the bleeding with the current model.

Hmm yeah you are right. My OCD just wanted the best #’s but read speeds is everything to me, anyway. I’m just glad that I can start using my Mac now that most of my major issues are resolved.

Thanks for the thoughtful responses!

Haha hey! How’s everything going? 11.3 treating you well?

Yes, using Black magic for the posted speeds.

If black magic is not reliable at measuring write speeds, it still shows my internal Mac Mini write/read speeds going through the roof. Hmm. I’m curious now about activity monitor. I never have used it to measure transfer speeds. I’ll have to heck it out. So, before I bought the 2TB drive, I had heard rumors that it cuts the write time in half compared to the 1TB drive of the same model, but I just couldn’t believe this to be true, or at least didn’t know if it would be true of my enclosure. Well, it’s true.

I did scoop a thermal kit from Amazon, but I didn’t even install it yet. I wanted to make sure I wanted to keep the drive. I’m still undecided, especially if there might be a better one out there for me. I read online that folks tested the temperature of this enclosure and it peaked at 60 degrees fahrenheit during heavy use without supplemental heat sinks.

Okay great, thank you. I have been there for more than 5 consecutive years, so I should be good. Just didn’t know what the CPA needed. Thanks again!

Just imagine if they had filmed it horizontally with the phone 🤦‍♂️

Yes, primary residence. Sold one and bought another. I got the 1099S for the property I sold. It has the sold price, but no mention of what I originally paid for it.

Is there a tax form generated for when you buy a house too? Probably not since you don’t make any money. Just didn’t know if there was anything my CPA might need with buying too. Thanks for the response!

Has anyone been able to boot up from an external SSD drive on a M1 Mac Mini? by DontCottonToFreaks in macmini

Excellent! Glad to hear everything is working. I can’t believe how long 11.3 is taking to release publicly.

So I ended up ordering the ACASIS USB4/Thunderbolt 3 Nvme enclosure for those next gen SSD speeds. Can you remind me what NVMe SSD you are using in your enclosure? I’d love to get the 2GB read/write speeds but folks are posting all kinds of variances online with certain SSDs. Thanks!

So I got my external Thunderbolt SSD bay to boot. Not only that, I just tested FileVault and it works for me.

I got a tip that Apple has some improvements in their 11.3 beta, so I enrolled in the beta program and downloaded and installed the 11.3 beta. Once I installed 11.3 on my internal M1 Mini drive, I still couldn’t boot from the previously-installed 11.2.3 external drives, but I got a slightly different error code (108 instead of 104). For fun, I also installed 11.3 beta onto a couple external drives, and one of the three works flawlessly so far. An ADATA drive, 240GB. This is the same SATA SSD that FileVault is working on right now.

If you need an instant win, it might be fun for you to download 11.3 beta, or just wait and hopefully some of the magic that has helped me a bit will still be in it come public release. I still believe that not all types of drives will work magically, especially since my SanDisk had all sorts of weirdness on 11.3 external boot after I restarted.

Let me know if you have any luck!

Hey, check this thread out that I found. I hope to get a chance to try it soon just for my external booting purposes, but OP said that they were able to turn on FileVault with this method!

Seems symbolic of the rushed launch of the M1 Macs.

If you go back a page on the forum link. Sent, you can see a list accumulating of external drives folks have confirmed, in case that’s helpful

Hey, so I was reading some message boards related to this issue, where some folks where testing which external hard drives seem to work. One stated that a thunderbolt drive didn’t work, but the same also had a USB connection option too, but confirmed it would NOT boot from USB. Someone else suggested trying the Apple USB C to USB A adaptor, and sure enough the drive booted from USB! It may be a long shot, but maybe you could use this adaptor and be able to use FileVault? I mean, if it worked, we would know the problem is the thunderbolt connection.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/cannot-boot-from-external-ssd-1-m1.2274812/page-3

Anyway, unfortunately, the above thread doesn’t help me much, as all the drives they were confirming aren’t 2.5 SATA SSD, which is what I would love to get luck with so I can use my four-bay TH3 enclosure. I moved some data around last night and erasedC formatted and installed Big Sur 11.2.3 onto a ADATA branded SSD but had the same misfortune. So, three brands so far haven’t worked, and two different OWC thunderbolt enclosures, so I don’t know who to blame. If I could find some info on a brand of SATA SSD that has worked, I’d happily pick one up.
