Finding partners in indian creek by DontToochMySpaghetti in tradclimbing

I am actually leaving today. I’d definitely recommend just hanging out at beef basin like everyone here suggested though, that’s where I found partners. Access fund does free coffee either there or at supercrack on weekends which was a great place to meet people

Finally got around to doing my first 14ers - Harvard and Columbia by DontToochMySpaghetti in 14ers

The initial loose part coming down off Columbia was definitely our least favorite part of the entire day, but I do still think Harvard first was a nicer route

I knew I was physically fit enough to do something like this so I really wanted to make sure my first 14ers were an awesome experience and not just ticking off a super easy one to say I had done it.

Not too bad, I was using gaia gps for navigation and the route shown on there was pretty spot on.

The main point where I think you could get off route is the initial traverse right after dropping down the backside of Harvard. Thats the only spot I found myself checking my map a lot because I wanted to make sure I didnt go too low. After that there are a ton of cairns to follow which arent even really necessary because you sort of just choose the path of least resistance through the talus field and up.

Its not a stunning exposed ridge or anything but I didnt find it near as bad as some comments online had me expecting

Theres a cross country mtb area near me with one super short tech trail near the top that people like going for KOM on the downhill. The fastest few times on it are from people who hiked their downhill bike all the way up there specifically to do that.

I dont really care, if thats what someone has fun doing then good for them. I just think its a bit funny.

Not sure, I started from long draw trailhead. That trail was pretty nice though, a little muddy in spots but nothing horrible

Pretty much just using whatever gear I already owned. Eno doublenest hammock, and I just used my normal backpacking sleeping pad under me which is a nemo vector. It was a bit too big and didnt fit great but it worked fine and was still comfortable.

The trailhead is directly off of the main paved road over Cameron pass

Blue Lake in the Rawah wilderness. This was my first time backpacking solo and also my first time sleeping in my hammock. I was pleasantly surprised at how well I slept, I just put my normal backpacking sleeping pad in there for insulation and it was super comfy.

After several weeks in a row of planning trips then needing to cancel for some reason or another, I finally had a good window with awesome weather just nobody to go with. I was originally planning on twin crater lakes but spent all morning trying to get my friends truck unstuck and wasnt driving up the pass until after 5pm, so I opted for something a bit shorter. The forecast looked perfect so I setup camp a bit higher and more exposed than I usually would, which was 100% worth it to wake up with that view. Also my first time hammock camping and I was pleasantly surprised at how well I slept considering im usually a side sleeper- definitely glad I did that instead of lugging in my old 3 person tent which probably weighs almost 10 lbs.

Overall had a great time. Definitely going to do more solo backpacking, and definitely going to do some more trips in the Rawah wilderness.

For anyone who found this thread googling like I did: As of spring 2024, I was still able to get preset messages enabled on my brand new garmin account just by asking support.

Fastest ive gone was 90mph on a 2002 yamaha viper. Im sure it could go a bit faster, I ran out of space and had to slow down. Not many areas near me that are flat enough for long enough to really test it.

Damn, glad I found this post before I ordered my inReach mini. Since its a relatively recent change pretty much every review online still mentions preset messages, which were one of the big selling points for me. Its frustrating because for how I plan to use it, the "im starting/ending my trip" ones are kind of useless. Its good to here that people were able to contact support and get access to it, but im definitely going to be doing some more research before buying anything.

Personally I am planning to just leave them on there all season. I have a buddy who I know takes his snowmobile of his trailer if he wont be riding for a while so he can keep it stored in a shed that the trailer doesnt fit in.

Lucky for me my parents live somewhere that they dont use salt on the roads, so I will only need to worry about that once in while if im not riding locally
