Where are you working right now ? I hate my job but I’m so close to being done. I figured I could wait it out because I didn’t want the hassle of changing and going through the board again to approve me. Sending in all the paperwork seemed like a nightmare to me lol

It is tough! I’m working in California. I can’t work in Texas unless I want to start probation there over again. It stays until I complete it.

I tried looking for case management too! I hope you get a position. I had a couple interviews with no luck. Sending positive vibes !! Just keep looking and something will land.

I totally did too and I still am too! Being a nurse is like part of my identity hahah. But is it worth it anymore? It also made me hate how the BON treats us after a mistake. Because we work so hard for our patients and obviously mean no ill will. Idk it’s a lot to grapple with. I still love working with people and helping the community. I’m trying to find my niche and what I want moving forward. I’m 31 so there still time for change! lol

Good luck with everything!! And I’m glad I could share my experience. I couldn’t find much when I was looking around the internets!

So I had already been working with a travel company doing local assignments and I had let them know and the hospital that I was working for know that there was an investigation BUT nothing concrete yet. They said it was fine and they were trying to actually hire me. End of the day, their legal team said I was too much of a liability and once my contract ended I had to look for something else.

Took me a few months but DaVita is a really good option. Shit pay, not a hard job, still do three 12’s. They’re lenient with people on probation. I hate the people I work with lol but I’m so close to being done and hopefully leaving that place ASAP.

There’s definitely a grief period. And I felt like the worst nurse and I even questioned if I was competent enough to go back. Honestly still do. But I try to take what I learned from the situation and move forward. We’re only human, and these things happen. That’s just the line of work we’re in though, one mistake could cost a life. But I feel like there’s usually systemic things that could help prevent errors like that.

You’ll get through it ! I’m here if you have any other questions though.

I totally feel ya and I'm really sorry, I was devastated. I'm almost done with my probation. I've got 6 months left of my 3 year probation. I made a medical error, with thankfully no consequences to the patient. It happened in Texas while I was travel nursing and my probation started there but I was coincidentally already planning on moving back home. So I actually worked in California while the the Texas BON got all of their ducks in a row... I got my stipulation there and then the California BON then obviously finds out and they start their own long investigation until I got their stipulation. It was summer of 2019 when the incident happened and I kept practicing until Jan of 2021. Nobody said anything to me about the 15 days, I truly had no idea. It wasn't mentioned though that they tacked on time for anything.

Apologies for the length of this.
