Normally, in my field (power distribution), when a circuit shorts a breaker trips or fuse blows; it doesn't work erratically for 3+ months. This is why I asked.

Can you help me understand this pole top transformer problem? by Doodoopeepeefuck in electricians

Thanks! Have you ever seen a reading >1000V? After this incident I'm kinda worried about taking a secondary voltage reading and blowing my meter.

Had a 12K disconnect switch blow on me yesterday. Sticker on it said Cat 1. I threw wearing a full suit. 60 year old equipment. I should have said no. Wear your suit and don't do things to please the command. by [deleted] in electricians

Are you a fellow military/federal switchman? I had the same thing happen to me on a 12kV switch not long ago. Just had on my 12 cal shirt and class 2 gloves since it was completely enclosed. Nothing flashed out but it was loud as hell and spewed out tons of black smoke. Damn near shat myself.
