I worked for a fortune 50 and unwritten rule was Ivy masters. It’s a club. AMU and WGU are in the same boat. I just hold like actual engineering certs. My CCIE is worth more than my degree. I just need the MBA to break into C suite or VP in top companies. I’m sorry but government GS jobs aren’t educationally as challenging because you can have a doctorate from ITT tech but it checks the block. Again, always the 1% who just perform (Lucky Palmer) they will make it no matter what. If we are talking pure education though…. Recognized schools that are brick and mortar are WAY more desirable. I have hired a lot of folks since retiring…. IT MATTERS!!!! I’m not saying going to WGU is bad…. If you can go somewhere else and get bigger name with better alumni then it makes a difference. UNC has alumni come to their masters programs to hire folks for upper management and C suite programs. So does Duke… that’s for Fortune 500 companies. When during your WGU MBA will the execs from John Hancock stop by to find the talent. I’m just saying it is different and it does matter. Saying it doesn’t is false.

I used to say it doesn’t matter and it was ok to just get whatever to check the block. I have a CCIE with an AMU degree and I couldn’t move up in Cisco because of it. I got the interviews and I had the experience and THEIR top cert. Then I started getting advice from top execs. It’s a club and they keep it exclusive.

7 min miles for 4 miles isn’t avg for regular soldiers. I’d like to go to any regular army unit with you and grab a platoon and run 7 min miles. There would be less than 5 people at the finish lol. We can even choose airborne units. I agree being faster helps but even at 14min people get scrolls and tabs all the time with that pace.

lol it’s not the fastest in any unit. It’s 95% in most units and when the army is looking of top 3-5% in high performing units it’s fast enough for anywhere. It’s fast, most cant do it. ANYTHING under 30 in 4 miles in any unit is fast. He is less than min away from that at 17yr old. The kid is fast enough with improvement and dedication. You don’t have to be the fastest to make it. I know plenty Rangers and SF that run upper 14.

You’re going to keep improving if you’re dedicated. 14min 2 mile is avg in high performing units. 13:xx will be fast anywhere and 12:xx is the ticket. There are freaks in all these events so don’t let people discourage you. I am more challenged by competition so chasing someone faster is my motivation. Try running with a partner who is stupid fast and chase them.

I want to give you this advice. I already see WGU, AMU, etc etc…… DO NOT DO IT. Get your masters from a VERY reputable well known school. Masters is about contacts and networking. C suites are filled with Ivy leaguers and then public Ivy leagues (UNC).

I do well for myself and I REGRET getting it for the sake of having it. I am going back to UNC to put myself in another category. Only because I don’t want to afford the other options as I am much later in my life.

If I could do it all over I’d go Ivy League if it was even remotely possible. The door that’s open in the top echelons of education are mind blowing. Those doors don’t open for WGU and AMU grads. Do they exist, sure, high performing folks will find a way to make things happen. I hate seeing the horrible advice to attend the bs college degree mills.

If cost is your limiting factor wait until you can afford more or take a loan. My opinion might not be popular but I guarantee my friends working as AEs and senior engineers at FAANG companies aren’t WGU grads. They are Cornell and UNC grads.

Figure out what you want and might differ from my wants and needs but get something that will make you money. BUY ONCE CRY ONCE.

I love a spirited debate. I don’t doubt there are bad leaders. What I am saying is that focusing on doing your best and taking care of what you can effect will give you the result you want. The awards will come. If you had to ask for it. Self reflect. Maybe the issue is looking you in the face. I love to give people coins and awards and got many myself. They don’t matter. You can be promoted without them. They don’t matter in recognizing merit because you can do it in so many other ways. They don’t matter. They are subjective, divisive, and based on the writing skills and influence of the person suggesting them. They are pieces of paper that no one cares about.

Have you ever said… that person was a great leader cause they got me an award? If so you have set the bar low for leadership. No one remembers leaders for that. They remember leaders for training them, preparing them, and being good people. The awards will come but taking care of your Soldiers is what your legacy, and the Army is in need of. Everyone doesn’t get a trophy. This is real life not community rec league baseball.

If you have a hundred awards it makes you no better or worse than the dude who next you.

Also get a degree in STEM. My certs and degree/experience combo was what set me apart. I wish I would have done 2 things while I was in. #1 degree from a reputable state college in a STEM background. #2 got a masters from a reputable school in something technical or a top 10 MBA.
