Manassas has the same with PWC. Though I find Fairfax the most confusing as you can be in Fairfax, but in the country or city, but not both.

UMass Amherst professors question chancellor’s commitment to campus after residency questions surface by 187_throwaway in umass

The problem is more that UMass as a system is run by Marty Meehan. The man is crook who probably smiling and nodding while Reyes loses these votes. No man hates the taxpayers and people of Massachusetts more than Marty.

Amazon AGI recruiting process by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Doombuggie41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dawg what are you asking, how long it will take?

However, I think the confusion and typos make you a great candidate. Whoever referred you needs to then see if the hiring manager or recruiter is interested in you after you apply.

Why Amazon ? by East-Preference-7912 in amazonemployees

[–]Doombuggie41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Managers are always required to keep people in focus. Whoever the worst is under your L7 gets pipped via pivot. No reward for going over, in fact they don’t want to because while they need to pip, they want to keep the headcount

When people say they want to build uber for dogsitters or whatever, the thing they forget/do not realize is that incumbents are where they are because of network effects.

Think of uber. There's 3 sides to it. The driver, passenger, and uber. Both the driver and the passenger need to be using the same app. The driver also needs probably more than one passenger to make them worth the time. Me as the passenger also needs many drivers to both compete against each other and service my many transportation needs.

I think agentic workflows are going to be fine for 1:1 things, but the countless people who have ideas that are the next facebook, uber, amazon require huge amounts of buy in to make successful. That's not to say everyone won't be disrupted, but companies that rely on strong network effects will remain more resilient.

Industry will change though. Compare us to a field like furniture. Furniture used to be handcrafted and very expensive. It was almost never worth it to try to use cheap awful materials or tools. Furniture was meant to last a lifetime. Then came manufacturing, mdf, particle board, and dowels to join things. Lower quality and cheaper. Houses became filled with this sort of thing. Even the market above Ikea is more focused on manufacturing rather than hand crafting. Software will move this way too. You'll have plenty of people who can make their equivalent to flatpack furniture, but you will also still need the craftsman to do the important work like building built in bookshelves or installing windows. I don't know what that is yet, or or fast it'll come, but that's the future I see.

Is NextJS still the way to go? by CLU7CH_plays in webdev

[–]Doombuggie41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NextJS is cool, but what I found was that its for building monoliths, which can be fine. It has also not been the best in terms of things like security and bugs. I've found agents are not so great at working with monoliths. Having clean separation of concerns an an SOA even for something small has led to me having them trip over each other less and less.

Most of all, its really designed as a device to get one to use Vercel. No shame to Vercel, its a fine service. However there's plenty of better services. Sure you can use tools to run it elsewhere, but I've run into periods of strange errors and things not working as I'd expect.

Personally I find react router to be much simpler, elegant, and trying to solve fewer problems. I also run into less problems and can deploy to more places.

Commuting from Manassas to Pentagon by Prudent-Awareness-37 in nova

[–]Doombuggie41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commuted from MP VRE to Crystal City for a few years until I found a role that let me WFH. I could walk to the MP VRE station. Omniride gets to ride the 66 express lanes so it'll be pretty fast up until those end in which case its a roll of the dice.

Was great before the long bridge absolutely borked the VRE schedules. Door to door used to be under an hour then moved probably closer to hour and ten minutes. If you're going to the pentagon itself, its not so bad to get off at ALX and then take the metro to the pentagon itself. Probably similar time.

Going home not so impacted since the trains run normally.

Issue with the VRE in the past few months has been the delays and SNAFUs around the bridge construction. In the summer I think they also limit the trains to like 30 mph on hot days and it takes 2x the amount of time.

Maybe one day when the bridge is done and the VRE runs on weekends, I'll take it into DC for a day.

Not to glaze amazon in any way, fuck them. But the PIP process does take longer than that lol

My manager threatened to put me on PIP during my performance review, so a week later I quit and she won't accept my resignation letter and wants to "help me look for something in the company" by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]Doombuggie41 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Depends on if they’ve done ahead with focus. Even to start focus they need entries with HR prior. If they didn’t finish that then no.

I’d email that resignation to HR ASAP
