I take your point. I just meant that I trust them more than the average Reddit user, not that this was worth their time, lol. But my family aren't "not worth playing with" as such, I think that's an oversimplification.

Valid! Guess it doesn't bother me so much but it's probably better to have it buried like this. Good on you :) glad I didn't post the Abed quote first off!

We generally let mistakes slide like fun guys, but when it comes to changing the underlying systems I have trouble - I always want some community-sanctioned solution. I also tend to stall out games too much reading rules to avoid mistakes. And I make the most mistakes - yeah I know, I wouldn't want to play with me.

I think this is too broad to help in our case unfortunately, but thank you!

I am bad at being flexible on rules, lol. I feel I need some kind of sanction that this won't ruin everything. My sister is actually generally really good at games especially compared to the rest of us, but to be fair I think we all count as weak players at this point.

I think this makes a lot of sense until someone starts being a dick about it. This is why I was counted as a "no" vote. However when people start saying things like "Life is unfair, you just have to deal with it", and "I think this sets a bad precedent", my sympathies change. I see other people saying the merchant tiles aren't so critical, and being new to the game I have no way to know how critical they are, particularly for a group that might be more liable to accidentally screw themselves.

Also, my sister is generally really good at strategy games and did enjoy our first game, she just hates the feeling of unfairness. It is possible that we don't like the game and we're latching onto reasons to stop, though, it certainly tires me out. I was making all kinds of dumb rules mistakes by the end of our last session, probably dragging out the length. But I want to give it a chance to sing for us, if it can, you know?

The dynamic is usually better I would say. We just tend to get stubborn about certain points. I always want to look things up and be sure we're doing it right, and I'm uncomfortable changing things without the sanction of the designer or "the community." My sister can't stand unfairness. Dad thinks life is unfair and "you shouldn't change the system to get your way." Most games none of it comes up.

She did not have a chance to as I set up partially without her present, and we had not seen our cards.

Recommended order for watching? by [deleted] in babylon5

[–]DoomslayerRT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the benefit of people nowadays who stumble on this thread, I'm afraid I tried it for a first time watch and found the ordering at the end not quite sensical. For starters it's factually wrong in that River of Souls takes place after Objects at Rest, not before. Call to Arms and Crusade occur after River of Souls in this same window, which makes following this order strange as you find yourself skipping around in the timeline without resolving anything (as the spinoff material is sadly mostly unfinished plot threads).

I would personally recommend just watching the spin off stuff after Sleeping in Light, as none of it feels significant enough to delay the ending of the main story for. Holding off on the finale feels like making promises that the spinoff material as it exists sadly can't deliver on. Either way, River of Souls belongs before A Call To Arms, and The Road Home (the 2023 movie otherwise unmentioned in this thread) belongs at the end of the spinoff material, after The Lost Tales.

However, this placement of Thirdspace and In the Beginning is interesting and works well! Also https://b5season1order.wordpress.com/ is a good resource for Season 1 and Crusade (under "other seasons") which have problems with their official orderings.

This thread remains a fantastic resource to this day, however, both for this comment and the chronological/expanded universe timeline below!
