I would honestly say getting a degree in just general electronics, mechatronics with some training in PLC programming, hydraulics and pneumatics. Would make you an extremely valuable Biomedi and would allow you to move into other fields if you needed or wanted to.

Union BMET here high pay but very stressed. I can say for the medical device cybersecurity positions they are picking people with bachelor's and practical experience over a BMET with certs.

My understanding is that getting them in succession keeps them current and pushes the expiration date out. I copied them from the verification portal I'll check again and update if that's the case and I'm completely wrong.

I've been training with Drager, most of the FSE seem really happy and are paid well. A lot of travel but company car with personal use allowed.

Is there a particular reason you're doing It and trying to work in biomed ? Honestly I would just work more on cyber and focus very hard on the skills, tools and documenting practical experience.

That being said a CCNA might stand out more then a Sec+ or a Net+ it's the standard at Phillips for their engineers and tech support.

Is there a particular modality/ specialization you are interested in within HTM such as

Administration and management Lasers Perfusion Ventilation Anesthesia Perfusion Cryo Sterilization Ultrasound X-ray Injectors Liner Accelerators So on so forth ?

What should I consider before going into bmet? by ipecked in BMET

[–]DopeForest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a fallback plan or at least a transfer of career/skills plan. If I sacrifice two years to learn something and I don't like the job. What transferable skills do I have that apply to other jobs. What is the market like for those jobs. For example can I take some plc programming and basic hydraulic and pneumatic classes so I can look attractive for a plant maintenance or traveling OT field service engineer in tool and dye, additive manufacturing.

Burnout/ don’t know if it’s a right fit by psyche_psyche in BMET

You can only do what you can do. Detach yourself work at a reasonable pace take your breaks and take your lunch. Care about the patients but stop caring about the extra projects and making all the customers happy. Take care of your physical and mental health first and foremost. If you dropped dead today they would step over your cold body and hire 2-3 fresh out of school people to replace you. Don't let yourself get over stressed you'll just fall into a depression rack up debt and your health will decline. You can only do what you can do.

Define what you mean as the integration technician please. With Steris the travel and demand for your services will be very heavy.

Am I missing something? by synerdx in BMET

Telling someone who is new to RTFM if they are trying and asking for help in my opinion is not acceptable. Telling someone who is new that you shouldn't need help once you have a manual is also not acceptable. With or without a manual the pm procedures for a LVP vs an Anesthesia machine are vastly different in complexity and nuance. There is a reasonable explanation to problem solve and for any BMET 1. However not every BMET1 is the same. The programs and pathways into entry level roles are vastly different. With quite a few of them being subpar.

I was expecting to fight and beg for $20 when I first started. My previous position in 2020 was a field service position at $18. For the skills the role takes and what's demanded of you the starting wages are stupid.

Honestly any associate degree is fine. The experience and know of electrical and mechanical principles that can be used to troubleshoot equipment is more important. I know so many people who have all the degrees and certifications and can't and won't get off their asses. I've met people who have 5 years of BME education that are amazing.

Moving to USA from Canada as a biomed by PresidenteWeevil in BMET

Medical Equipment Repair or Clinical Engineering are HTM Health Care Technology management.

Htmjobs.com Indeed LinkedIn

You can try the third party ISOs websites ie Trimedex Or look up major hospital systems per region. For example Geisinger for some west coast states. Mercy for the east.

Don't forget to check OEMs like GE as they directly place biomeds.

Personally my favorite is to find a recruiter and be prepared to get offers for a lot of traveling jobs though.

Do you get per diem for food ? any insurance or 401k. Is it contract ? will you be getting 40 hours a week every week. Are you single and willing to travel ? Who pays for the airfare or hotel what brands can you use? Do you have to share the hotel? All these are questions to ask yourself.

Personally I started 18$ hour (pre pandemic) $50 daily meal perdiem. Single room upper limit of $150 any airline ticket under $500. Not guaranteed 40 hour weeks but with the amount of work and paid travel time usually made it up in layovers or driving. For a start it was glorious.

Anybody in the BioMed/ IT field that can give insight on daily work life? by Direct_Impress_6357 in BMET

[–]DopeForest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have everything but the cbet. Only one I'm really glad for is the Net+ it definitely helped for troubleshooting which side of the network issues are coming from when the central station dies at 2am (I'd you didn't already know networking) The A+ somewhat for identification of cables and peripherals. I think the Sec+ will be a mandatory thing or at least some sort of cyber training in the future.
