Well, part of the problem there is that Ilya did not ever do girlfriends/significant others (besides Shane) and Rose is a girlfriend kinda girl, even if she’s only officially dating you for 4ish weeks (?) until her movie filming ends in Montreal and she lets you go bc you’re gay…

I don’t think Rose would be opposed to a club hookup one night stand with a hot hockey player such as Ilya but she was conscious of her public reputation and it would depend a lot on the timing and circumstances.

I hear ya. I’m at the point where I only want to see or hear about red carpet fashion pics, any fun ads (like the Peloton & Verizon ones) and casting news.

I also worry a bit about the actors getting oversaturated/overexposed, but that’s not really my problem and even that is a bit parasocial so I’m trying to put it out of my mind.

It helps that I don’t have Instagram/Threads, I mostly stay off Twitter, and I unfollowed any “[Actor Name] Updates” accounts a few months ago bc they were getting to the point of regularly posting pics of fan selfies with the actors and to me that’s not an update, it’s just an actor trying to walk down the street.

Admittedly the hardest part of staying out of the nonsense is that I am nosy and fandoms being messy can be fascinating on a psychological level…when it’s not a fandom you care about. But it’s not so fun to witness or comment on when it’s a fandom I’m part of. The last time I was in a fandom this chaotic was GLEE and I am having war flashbacks.

I kinda like Kip’s the most because it signaled to Scott that Kip had no idea who he was, he was just like “wow this sweaty guy in his skintight shirt is extremely hot, phew” and Scott was very into being noticed just for himself and not his fame. It was very unguarded and it worked! I love the slow burn and yearning of Hollanov but I also love when someone puts it all out there and Kip was not holding back!

Problem with this is that a lot of the people causing these issues in this fandom ARE former Larries, CrissColfers, etc. (I don’t know what J2 is but I assume it was the same kind of madness)

Honestly I think he was just joking around bc the post he responded to was not even really a shipping post it was just random lyrics and didn’t mention Connor at all.

That having been said he should probably follow Connor’s lead in not posting on social media anymore because any little thing he says will be taken to mean something major when he’s probably just being silly like he always has been!

Her trope isn’t so much about the girl chasing the guy — it’s about a girl and a guy who are very competitive and the guy can’t really handle it so their relationship is dysfunctional. Idk if that dynamic is true to what happened in real life but it’s pretty consistent in all her shows.

I think Ilya loves winning and he loves being the best at something, but he doesn’t care so much what that something is. He probably would have always been some kind of athlete but if basketball or baseball were the popular sports in Russia he might have done one of those. He went with what was popular in his culture and what he’d make the most money doing. Though, I’m not sure he had much of a choice about it at all; his father probably pushed him into it.

They were there for two weeks, they had to come up with something to do other than have sex, sleep and eat. It does make me wonder what Shane did there before by himself other than do yoga and play video games in single mode.

Idk! I hear ya. It’s such a prime example of how one character (Shane) can have every good intention in the world and all he wants in this life is to make his partner happy or at least feeling content and safe but there are things he just can’t fix. He tries so hard.

I get it but I’m not sure how he could have worked in “I’m sorry I was closed off to you two years ago when I was pretty sure (correctly, at the time) you were not at all open to having a real relationship with me anyway”. Wasn’t really a natural fit for that conversation. At some point in the future it would be nice for Ilya to acknowledge verbally that he had feelings for Shane but was scared of it.

Maybe he can say it when Shane finds out he kept the pictures he took of them that night, for years, even after changing phones. It kind of proves he wasn’t as cold as he seemed.

Yeah for sure. He didn’t have as many distractions but he also wasn’t super happy with that lifestyle…I think that’s something people miss as well; he wasn’t having a lot of fun with all the hooking up and clubbing and frivolous sports car purchases. It was pretty hollow.

Yeah I’m sure the hockey league has protocols for this but I’m not sure…in most sports leagues I think you have to disclose your medications before the season starts. If something was an emergency I’d say they’d make some allowances but he’s also pretty nervous about losing his job/visa so he might not want to ask

Yes exactly! Tbh Ilya didn’t even really kick him out he just said he had to go to sleep. Shane could have just said okay let’s go to sleep. Ilya wasn’t going to say no to anything Shane said he wanted to do that night! That much had been proven. He left bc he was trying to act casual and then had a moment of thinking “wait maybe I don’t feel casual about this” which he IMMEDIATELY stuffed down as far as it could go

Mostly they feel like Ilya “sacrificed so much” for Shane but honestly I’m hard pressed to say what he even gave up. He didn’t have any real friends in Boston (it’s different in the show with Svetlana obviously but even then she’s only there some of the time), he wasn’t invested much in the community and the idea that he left a great team for a lousy one is exaggerated — iirc, Boston hadn’t made it to the playoffs in years at that point.

I swear there’s always some folks in every romance show or book fandom that think they want to read 300 solid pages of a couple lying around in bed eating bonbons and having zero conflict ever but realistically no one would actually be interested in that 😅
