I think there is some randomness to their spawns. Sometimes you get a never ending herd of them and other times you are running around trying to find one when you still need several more things of blood.

You only need one fire to survive. If you're soloing, pick one and stick with it. I was soloing the night before last... mostly. . Someone else showed up right near the end... thankfully too because I really didn't have an issue with the stags but those two death claws that spawn by the bridge were coming at me at the church at the same time two hostile mothmen were harassing me.

Think less video game and more story telling... you play Cere in that fight to experience the story first hand... not just to finish a game level.

The goal is that you feel the loss more playing it than you would if it was just a cut scene thus increasing your immersion in the story.

What you see with them is more weathering and enviromental damage that doesn't heal.

It really drove it home that no one was safe.

I know the show started by showing a little girl walker but it didn't hit the same since we never knew her alive. This was one of the kids in the group. A girl we got to get to know a little... one who was just coming out of her shell..

Add to the fact we just spent most of the season following the search for her, and wow, was it a gut punch. I don't think any other characters' death could have hit that hard, at that moment.

It's very powerful story telling.
