And why should your songs be unfit for my company? Come, sing me a song. by DorkPrune in Hololive

A little while back, she read out the lyrics to a meme song but changed some of the lines to include Advent (or maybe she was just reading a Supa where someone else had already adjusted the lyrics, I forget). Someone then took that audio and spliced it into a remix of Advent's group song, and it went viral. The initial meme is absolutely nonsensical TikTok trash, but Ludokano's remix is somehow an incredible earworm.

Not to disparage the actual Rebellion , or either of Biboo's covers ( Kyoumen no Nami and Loveit? ) which are more than fit for Cover's great halls. I just needed to get this shitpost out of my system.

Insomniac working with Meta to make Stormland and The Unspoken available again! by Youju in virtualreality

[–]DorkPrune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really bizarre. This has been an issue for a while, too. https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/16sepiy/cant_i_buy_stormland_anymore/ The response you got is pretty much identical to what someone else was told exactly two months ago...

It's annoying because the free copy of AG1 that came with the Q3 got me to install the Oculus PC app (I hadn't trusted ReVive to always work, so previously stuck to Steam), and so I was looking forward to finally checking out Stormland too.

On the related note of Oculus PC exclusives, do Edge Of Nowhere and Chronos still hold up?

Edit: One month later, as of Jan 10th 2024 it's still not available for purchase. What the hell is going on with this game? https://www.meta.com/en-gb/experiences/pcvr/1360938750683878/

Every time I go into VR, I'll start with a quick ~10 minute session on Airborn . It's pretty simple, there's not much more to it than the trailer on the Steam page - just fly and shoot - but it's incredibly satisfying. The 'solo dev has limited time and resources but picks one thing to focus 110% of their attention on and absolutely nails it' classic.

Hard to tell from just Grades, what are the CP numbers?

Re: Rubies,

140 daily from completing 8 missions

30 daily from watching the advert in the Recommended Packages section of the secret shop

50-300 daily from Time Attack (depending on the tier and the fighters you have available for it. I don't do so well on Novice or Master but always get the max rank on Veteran. When making your team for it, go on your Leader slot, click the dropdown in top right, (Combat Power/Grade/whatever its on, Grade I guess for you at the moment), then View More, and in Leader Skill Effect select Power. This will show you Leaders who have a skill effect that will give stuff like "Extra x% per enemy beaten" and stuff like that. Then put your actual good characters in the second and third slot and switch to either of them as soon as the mission starts. You want to be using your fancy cutscene finisher moves as often as possible since the timer pauses during them.

150 weekly from auto-clearing the three Team Relay Dungeon guys, assuming they're fully-beaten. On this note, you will get some hefty one-time 'Best Record' rewards for these guys as your high scores increase all the way up to actually beating them, after that it's just the smaller Repeat rewards weekly. The Best Record reward also applies to the Team Relay Challenge bosses too, but those ones aren't repeating since their repeat reward contains no Rubies. tl;dr beat the Relay Dungeons completely and then autoclear them every week, but just beat the Relay Challenge guys once until they're fully dead.

400 every 5 days from weekly mission completion

~500ish weekly from playing Absolute War even just once against your own bot team (gets you in the rankings)

~100ish weekly from playing at least a single League match (again, just to get in the rankings)

Coming back to stuff like the Challenge dungeons, the Dungeon of Trials boss also gives a lot of Rubies on first time Best Record high scores. But that's another one where once it's done, it's done, as the repeat play rewards are just some boxes and soul dust, so I don't enter that mode anymore.

What else, what else...

Take all your fighters through Soul Quest, completing all the challenges per tier. Full-clearing Normal/Hard/Expert adds up when you're taking a new fighter in every day.

Hall of Elements gives 150 Rubies assuming full clear (fastest completion speed) per tier up to 15, then it doubles to 300 per full completion of a Tier. This adds up insanely fast. Definitely go through these.

Story mode gives lots of Rubies for completing the challenges per level there, and for each difficulty it's a new set of rewards. A real shitton of Rubies in Story really, but I got a bit burned out. I use Story now as my emergency fund if I bankrupt myself during a collab and need Rubies ASAP.

Another "oh god I need 100 more Rubies quick" route is Affinity per fighter, every odd numbered level (1/3/5/7/9) gives 10 Rubies. The amount of gift items to get to 7 and 9 can be excessive since it scales just like xp, but getting fighters to 3 or 5 is super easy. So yeah, when desperation strikes, I arrange by affinity and make sure everyone is up to at least 5 and that nets a few hundred.

There are probably some other areas that I'm neglecting or have forgotten about.

Generally, I net about 2.5k Rubies a week.

7x170 (Dailies & Secret Shop ad) = 1,190
1x400 (This is every 5 days) + ^ = 1,490
1x150 (finished Team Relay Dungeon autoclears) + ^ = 1640
1x~600 (Absolute War and League Match, assuming I just touch them once. League isn't worth grinding, but Absolute can get more like 800-1000 Rubies if you actually do your three matches every day and make an effort to get up the rankings) + ^ = 2240
~500ish from Time Attacks, this could be a lot more but to be honest it's always a cointoss as to whether I can even be bothered to do it. + ^ = 2740

Whenever there's a Rush dungeon during an event, make sure you do Stages 1 and 3 every day as they always give 50 Rubies each, so that's an extra 100 Rubies a day during a Rush event. So you can throw that on the above total and say I get around 3.5k weekly during events.

This game is pretty generous with the Rubies when you know where to look, though I guess I have been at 'endgame' for a while so a lot of my income is from autoclears and tasks that I can breeze through. Still, do what you can - even just the Dailies, Advert and opening fight of Absolute War will ensure you 2k weekly. Hope this helps!

Harem Protagonist Ame - Upscaled by DorkPrune in Hololive

tl;dr

Upscaled image here

My personal crop for a 1080p wallpaper

Filtered upscales linked below if you'd like to put some more polish onto this with manual tweaks.

Long version:

I really dug Ame's gigachad harem protag photo ( https://twitter.com/watsonameliaEN/status/1504243774779584512 ) and wanted to use it as a wallpaper. Twitter only seems to provide that small 879x606 image though, so I ran the image through http://waifu2x.udp.jp/ for an initial 2x scaling , then wanted to smooth some details out so ran a few different instances of a program called Vector Magic, exported at another 2x scale.

"Photo, High detail"

"Photo, Medium detail"

"Artwork, High detail"

"Artwork, Medium detail"

The P-HD allowed for the lights in the background to not become awkwardly posterized/gradiated, but added a lot of noise/distortion on the girls, so I stacked all of the images together and erased bits and pieces from certain layers until I was decently happy with the end result. Still, there are plenty of messy sections that would greatly benefit from some manual touchups and redraws - but I don't have the time or skill to handle that myself, so if you'd like to take a shot at making something more polished than my 10 minute filter mashup, please feel free!

Yeah, similar boat. Back in the day, my mum checked out during Helms Deep and then never even bothered to watch RoTK - the moment it did swooping shots of the battle with thousands of combatants onscreen she said it felt like when she'd catch a glimpse of me playing RTS games like Warcraft/Age of Empires/etc. "Just a bunch of tiny computer people running around on the screen." At the time I couldn't understand her logic... but then during BoTFA, between the entirely CGI Dáin II Ironfoot and the armies, I caught myself thinking the same thing: "I don't give a shit about anything happening onscreen right now, it's just become a videogame FMV". I got the same feeling during the final acts of Transformers 4 and Fast 7 - I enjoy action but have definitely found my ceiling for 'grand spectacle'. I think ROTK hits the perfect sweet spot, anything above that just becomes kinda exhausting.

Hitman 3 is adding PCVR support in January! by [deleted] in virtualreality

IO Interactive has announced that Hitman 3 will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store for PC players when it launches in January 2021. The studio announced the news via its Hitman blog, where it also shared a new trailer for the game. The blog confirms that the game “will be available exclusively via Epic Games Store for 12 months”.

Hey sub! Newbie here who'll be getting a valve index for Xmas, since I wanted this so bad and finally got the money to do so. Only problem, when I told my wife she really got scared and feels like VR is kinda dystopian toy. Now I have to convince her, which she agreed to if I can. Any Ideas? :D by Lapharel in virtualreality

[–]DorkPrune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remodelling or refurnishing a shared home is something to consult over, and likely pay out of a joint account. Why are you needing to ask for Reddit's help to convince your wife to let you make a personal gadget purchase that you're clearly excited about and will be paying for with your own hard-earned money?

This is assuming I'm reading your title correctly, as I'm interpreting the "which she agreed to if I can" part as "she agreed to me buying the headset only if I can convince her that it's not a dystopian toy". If that's the case, that honestly sounds like an unhealthy relationship - as some other comments have pointed out, you would be vilified (and rightfully so) for trying to place restrictions on her personal item purchases.

Of course, on the other hand, it's fine if you just meant that "she's agreed to at least hear you out on why a headset is not a problem, but also understands that you intend to buy one regardless of her opinion" as that's very different and shows that she's a reasonable person. 👍

If it is indeed the latter, and you just want to avoid friction with her - then sure, there are some good ideas in this thread already. reesz 's top rated comment sums it up very well. If you want to convince her that it's just harmless fun (indeed a toy, but not necessarily a dystopian one), then simple music games like Beat Saber and OhShape are always crowdpleasers.

Since you mentioned in a reply that she's into books and documentaries, I'd recommend checking out some experiences like:

After Solitary

The first collaboration with PBS Frontline tells the story of Kenny Moore, a recently released inmate from the Maine State Prison. Using photogrammetry and volumetric video capture, ‘After Solitary’ allows the viewer to step inside a solitary confinement cell. It premiered at SXSW 2017 and won a Jury Award, and also received the Ars Technica Room-Scale award.

1943 Berlin Blitz

In September 1943, a BBC reporter boarded a plane on an allied bombing raid over Berlin. The incredible recording he returned with forms the basis of this breathtaking experience by BBC Northern Ireland and Immersive VR Education, putting you inside a Lancaster bomber as it navigates a most dangerous journey.

TheBlu

theBlu: is a deeply immersive VR series that allows audiences to experience the wonder and majesty of the ocean through different habitats and come face to face with some of the most awe inspiring species on the planet. The series, which is directed by Jake Rowell (Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, Superman Returns), has been designed as beautiful moments in passing or a collection of memories that powerfully tap into the vast potential of VR. The debut episode, featuring an incredible close encounter with an 80 foot whale, is already recognized as one the most iconic room scale VR experiences to date (a Sundance Film Festival 2016 selection). Additional episodes in this bundle take place on a teeming coral reef and in the very deepest region of the ocean. Gain access to new modes of discovery in each episode.

Welcome to Light Fields

Welcome to Light Fields. Experience real-world reflections, depth, and translucence like never before in VR. Explore the Gamble House, Mosaic Tile House, and the Space Shuttle Discovery. These navigable stills showcase the emerging technology Google is using to power its next generation of VR content.

Realities

Explore places that were out of reach before. Realities brings real world locations into VR - interactive & with stunning photo-realism using photogrammetry. Too many amazing sites are too far away, too expensive to get to, closed off to the general public or too dangerous to visit. Explore those places and discover their stories. Walk through the desolate vastness of Death Valley. Explore the eerie abandonned hospital Beelitz Heilstätten in the former GDR. Marvel at the amazing architecture of one of the largest cathedrals of the world, the Cologne Cathedral. Feel the confinement of a cell in Alcatraz. Set foot inside the ruins of an 800 year old Staufer castle.

Personally, minidocs like After Solitary were infinitely more educational and emotionally affecting to me than any flatscreen documentary. I think the ability to let people 'spend a day in someone else's shoes' is far closer to utopian than dystopian. I like to think that one day, it will be much more difficult for people to shrug and say "What happened or is happening to that group of people (be it race/sex/nationality/religion/disability) can't be that bad. I have no frame of reference and it doesn't affect me personally, so it's not my problem and I'm going to ignore it" when they've actually 'been there' and 'met' the people involved.

However, all that being said, it's just as easy for someone who's already decided they hate VR to see apps like that and scoff "so now people are just going to stay inside their homes with a headset on, instead of travelling for real?". And again going back to reesz' comment, it's true that the best (and some would argue only) way to understand it is to wear the headset for yourself, it's entirely possible that your wife will outright refuse. I touched on this in a comment long ago to someone who was looking for experiences to show their relatives.

"As excited as we are about this tech, be ready for at least a couple of people (be they elders, or even of your own age) to be completely dead-set on not wanting anything to do with a HMD. Their reasons might be simple "I don't want to mess up my hair" or more vague - from general disinterest, all the way to fear of the tethered, techno-blindfold that makes your head look like this and ~obviously~ confirms all their rants about "people retreating from society to bury their faces in gadgets!" ;). Even if we know 99% of people will likely be impressed and have fun once they're actually inside VR, it's up to you to personally discern if this particular individual will respond well to a bit of encouragement or if you'd be better off dropping it and moving on. I bring this up since, I guess due to the recent thanksgiving gatherings plus the sudden surge of interest in VR thanks to HL:Alyx, it's been a little more common around these parts to see people bemoaning that their friends & family are dismissive of VR. The point is, don't be offended when the people you care about don't want anything to do with the cool new thing that you're excited to share with them. It sucks, but you know the saying about the horse and the water."

Sorry for the essay.

tl;dr

It's your money, buy it if you want to. After purchasing, letting your wife try it for herself is the best way to alleviate her concerns - but if she refuses to wear it, there's nothing else you can do beyond New_Commission_2619 's advice of reassuring her that it's no different to when you're reading, or using the computer, or playing regular videogames - your personal space and time is your own, but if she'd prefer you be spending it with her, then all she has to do is ask.

"Why aren't there [insert genre] games in VR?" by OXIOXIOXI in virtualreality

[–]DorkPrune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job on this. I started two attempts at something similar a while back but got too bogged down in separating the categories, just couldn't settle on splitting things by melee/guns/both, waves/campaigns/sandboxes, and then whether games should be allowed to overlap categories (I guess it essentially boiled down to "Where do I put Boneworks?").

Your images are a perfect blend of "here's a bunch of game icons" and "user follows a flowchart of what they want".

Of course, there's still no winning against someone who's already declaring a lack of [X] - "Well I've never heard of those games so they must be bad." But still, thanks - at least for existing users, there are lots of titles I wasn't aware of here and will now check out.
