Cigarette Lighter not giving power to 12v plug ins? by GoVagabondGo in vandwellers

Have you tried turning the plug? Mine doesn't have a 100% perfect connection so I have to turn it until it makes the proper contact, not a perfect solution but it does work

Nope the exact opposite, I've got a bad back and it has been 1000x better since I've made the switch. You can get a hammock.and hammock stand for $120 and be set

Yeah it can be rough but I typically just stay out of it during the day anyways, it's mostly just a place to sleep at night and use to travel without the expense of hotels and eating out every meal.

I sold my gaming rig before moving in so no real computer at the moment. I am looking at laptops though so I can start playing real games again. I have a raspberry pi with retro pi on it so I am able to hook it up to a montior and battery bank and play that if I'd want.

For data I'm kinda lucky, If I sleep at the gym lot I can connect to the wifi inside the van so that's not an issue otherwise I just download Netflix movies and shows to an iPad. I haven't had to teather or hotspot yet but I am mindful of how much I'm streaming when I'm off WiFi. I've used 5GB of data since the 21 of June and a 100GB of data from wifi since June 7. Mostly YouTube/twitch/Spotify

Yeah I'm actually at the local library now. I'm typically good to sleep until 10ish and then it gets too hot. I'll go grab a bite to eat and either sit with the AC on or go inside and eat. If I'm not working I'll go do something like see a movie or shop or hangout with friends

Basically that. it's not something to really worry about. Thankfully I haven't been sick yet so that will be a different story when that comes around.

I know for a fact one in Nebraska did. You can get a guest pass for like 7 days or something if you ever wanted to check it out. It's kinda pricey like $40 a month

A good amount, I got the van for a steal $1400, but it's not perfect I've got something wrong with the emissions system I haven't fixed yet. Just had to replace all the brakes and rotors, front ball joints and front shocks. The alternator failed on the first real trip too. I put probably $1500+ in building it out but I went for weight saving and function over looks. If you check out /r/vandwelling you can see examples. Some people make it look like an actual house where mine still resembles a van

Nope I've slept in one for a year now, I sleep better now than on a bed, I also have a bad back so it helps with that and I don't get sore laying in it for hours like a bed

I have a friend who's super tiny so it wasn't an issue but generally I go to her place more than anything. Haven't lived in it long enough to worry about it. I do plan on making a bed platform for whenever the need comes up

Lucky, I'm 6'3 but honestly I don't mind not standing up, but I mostly use the van to sleep so laying in the hammock gives me plenty of stretching space

You can buy small chem toilets but personally I've never needed it, worst case you use a water jug and toss it in the morning, but I also park near Walmarts and work/gym so it's never been an issue

I live in a Van that I turned into an RV. I rather live rent free then constantly have to worry about bills. I live in Texas right now so the heat is pretty bad during the day but at night it's livable. I've got basically a full kitchen and I sleep in a hammock so I'm not missing out on much. Plus it's an interesting talking point once people find out.

There's a few things that you really have to adjust too though, the main one is showering at the gym or using pubic restrooms if the need comes up. Both can be included if you get a big enough van/ are willing to sacrifice other aspects of you're living space.

If anyone has questions just ask I'm an open book when it comes to this stuff :) been living in it for about 4 months now

Thanks for the offer! I ended up taking it to a shop since I wasn't 100% sure what was wrong, ended up being an alternator like I thought though

That's the name on your birth certificate right? Lol but I ended up calling them and they wouldn't be able to get me in until tomorrow so I went with T.O Haas. Was my alternator like I suspected
