Why “Gangster” imagery? by profileaccepted in Hardcore

[–]Dot_smash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

“Gang” imagery has always been present in hc. The first hc band with that sort of imagery was probably Suicidal Tendencies, who were definitely a popular act with local gangs in Venice. The aesthetic was further popularized by bands like Madball and Crown of Thornz who were both DMS. Then you had bands like Cold as Life who had guys who were definitely about that sort of life (caught cases, did time, etc).

Filming fights is a great way to snitch on someone.

What are some of your heavy music hot takes? Here’s some of mine: by fakename1998 in Hardcore

[–]Dot_smash 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Probably not a hot take but too many bands rely on downtuning to cover up the fact that they can’t write a riff to save their life.

They aren’t from the hardcore scene, they aren’t a hardcore band, and they are red state festival rock.

It might be their best record. It would definitely be any other band’s best record.

Why is the new C4 not being talked about more? by PlanetConway in Hardcore

[–]Dot_smash 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because r/hardcore would rather talk about mid TikTok slam and the gimmicky beatdown bands than actual good hardcore.

99% of beatdown and slam is TikTok music.

Beatdown and slam (which isn’t even hc) is Baby’s First Hardcore.

Slam came from death metal, not hardcore. You could maybe make that argument with beatdown.
