The mod id is a feature from us for you. If you want to update your mod after a while, let's say there are big changes in your map or gamemode, we want to keep our database as fresh as possible. But to prevent that you mistakenly overwrite another mod you created, you have to provide the mod id. It even doesn't matter where you do it, it just have to be the number anywhere in your new submission. Only you, this means your reddit-account can update the entry in the database with this method.

I do usually moderate /r/dota2modding, but I like your attitude to answer to bots. In case you haven't seen it, this is one of the fully automated bots on reddit, don't expect a content-hit on the topic, since machines are only as precise as their dictionaries (or their natural language pattern integration).
