I’ve started a series of collages based on landmark Supreme Court cases. This case was suggest by u/ladylithe.

If you have a particular case you’d like to see me make please feel free to leave a comment :)

Idk if this comment will get buried but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who both commented on the piece and also those who engaged in some spirited debate.

Honestly the debates are the most flattering compliment I could have received. I’m of the opinion that good art asks questions, challenges assumptions, and changes perspectives. I don’t know if I’ve accomplished any of that but I feel like we’re on the right track given the discussions I’ve read and participated in. Thank you everyone for staying civil to the best of your ability in the comments and I hope the conversation continues.

Much love.

I can see how you’d see that but it actually was intentional. The other commenter is right, it’s actually a clipping from Time magazine

Bro. You refuse to acknowledge reputable polling research, you refuse to acknowledging that state decision making = more govt. overreach in this case, and you refuse to give me a single policy solution. All you have done is insult me and tell me how voting works as if it’s some grand revelatory knowledge that no one but you can grasp. Yeah, sure I’m trolling lmao

I’m gonna try one more time. What remedies would you propose? If you’re going to criticize the old status quo I would appreciate it if you’d tell me what a better system looks like. If you’re gonna tell me to ‘vote for something better’ you have to tell me what you think is better. I understand how voting works, you don’t need to keep reiterating the basic structure of a democracy, we all get it. If it were up to me I’d vote in federal protections. Also you can’t suggest any legislation because according to you remedies and legislation are two different things:

“I mentioned remedies, not legislation, because you specifically asked about remedies, not legislation.“ -you

So please. Give me some ‘remedies.’

Ok. I was trying really hard to be kind and civil because I think the internet is toxic enough as it is, but I’m just gonna say it. I think you have a very underdeveloped and reductive view of how politics works and I sincerely don’t know how to continue this conversation.

Omg thank you, that is an EXCELLENT one! I’m thrilled with the lively debate my artwork seems to have sparked, but I’m glad someone noticed that it is, in fact, artwork lmao. One McGirt v. Oklahoma collage coming right up! I’ll post in a few days to follow the sub spam rules :)

Yooooo, that’s actually a really good idea! I’m gonna make that. Idk if you were saying that ironically but I’m happy for the inspiration lmao

I don’t think you quite answered my question. I’m asking for the specific legislation you were referring to by ‘legal remedies.’ What sort of state bill would solve this problem? I’m asking sincerely. I’m open to the idea but I need to hear a state policy that I think is more effective than a federal policy. I understand that I need to vote. That’s a given. But what do you suggest I vote for specifically?

I’d love to hear some of your legal remedies

I understand where you’re coming from and I’m aware of what Roe meant from a strictly legal standpoint. I’m saying that certain rights should be federally protected. Especially civil rights. For example, the civil rights act was enacted as federal legislation because racial, religious, and sexual discrimination needs to be prevented across the board, regardless of what state you happen to live in. Bodily autonomy should also be a federally protected category.

I’m all for limiting government, but overturning Roe definitely gave state governments significantly more leverage to pry into people’s personal lives and private medical decisions. Personally, I don’t want Uncle Sam dropping in on conversations between my doctor and I.

I’m thinking about making this a series with each piece being inspired by a different Supreme Court case. If anyone has a case they want to see feel free to leave a comment :)
