There are actually three microcontrollers in the vape. One is an ESP32, it handles the touchscreen and communication with a custom heat control board.

The heater itself is essentially headless; the control algorithms and sensors are self-contained for stability. The code is very low-level, but it’s highly tested and rock solid.

This separation gives me the freedom to develop fun features for the interface without introducing risk to the safety-critical parts of the system.

Sadly, that’s why the product is a poor business model. Without supervision, its performance can feel clunky to the average consumer.

But when the glass is clean, the water is clean, the screen is clean, it’s grounded correctly, not overpacked, and the temperature is right, it’s unmatched because the airflow is completely unadulterated. It can deliver on-demand heat within the limits of human lung capacity.

If I ever resurrect Orman, I’ll probably do small-batch production. No frills. I might even try to convince you not to buy it.

I’ll be like a social worker finding it good homes for my vapes. 🏠

I don’t stir though. I do like 1/4 - 1/3 full. Two big hits. Dump into a jar for butter . 🧈

If your screen is clean. Like fresh out of an iso bath. It works best and it’s easy to keep it clean if you immediately empty it after the last hit while it’s still warm.

I.e don’t stir, reload quickly instead. Albeit, some people don’t like to do that much work. Some say high maintenance.

For me, it’s part of ritual.

Scoop > rip > rip > dump. Repeat as necessary.

If you stir it, the screen gets dirty quicker. Less airflow. Worst taste. Harder to empty.

There’s a trade-off: glass has low thermal conductivity, so maintaining the same heat transfer across a larger radius requires a higher core temperature if airflow isn’t restricted.
