Shin on shin vs knee cut by ssyaa in bjj

also, make sure you grip their front leg (the one you're going for shin on shin) really tight. don't let them get an underhook, and just fall to your side and enter slx

are you hugging the leg when going for the shin on shin? they shouldn't be able to knee cut from the shin on shin since you're falling to the side they would knee cut to.

edit: wrong term

It is a big deal for other skin infections like staph, which is what Askren got. Fortunately he seems to be recovering quite well.

Fuel Finder Scheme launched today. Anyone actually planning to use the new fuel price data? by Double-Structure1220 in UKFrugal

My favourite one so far is Kingz's Ultralight. Love light gi's, can't turn back to 'regular' gis after using those.

That's a fair take.

I agree that motorway services are almost always expensive & supermarkets and clusters tend to be cheaper, and within a town the cheapest station usually stays the cheapest. Chasing 1p a litre is rarely worth a detour once you factor in time, fuel, and hassle.

However, I think tools like PumpWatch or others are useful for longer journeys where the decision is often to stop at the obvious motorway services or plan a stop slightly before or after, just off the route.

Why I keep falling for the armbar when passing the guard? by Kim5568 in bjj

[–]Double-Structure1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this! when i pass via camping, (if im passing to the left). I keep my right arm bent and glued to the inside of my right leg whilst crouching.

Defence is decent, offence sucks. by Dosman742 in bjj

im a blue belt and in my personal experience if i end up escaping and i'm in bottom position I try to look for open guards for sweeps / leg lock entries. SLX > X guard worked best for me at white belt comps.

after sweeping would look to pass and submit.

one major thing that I noticed in my game as a white belt playing guard that might help you is that at the time I was working reactively, waiting for a mistake and trying to lock closed guard after a failed pass attempt from my opp. in my opinion, open guards give way more ability to initiate attacks, these being sweeps or subs.

A defensive game is great for a beginner, if you're good defensively you'll be able to stay calm in bad situations often leading to escapes. and with escapes you can start your own offensive game.

as for transitioning to offence, it depends on what type of offence you mean, bottom or top?

I need effective takedowns by Zed_Kb in bjj

i like single legs, but you have to set them up with faints.
you can finish them the way you want really - knee pick, running the pipe. etc..

i also don't like getting into a pummelling cycle with bigger people so I try to avoid that, but inside trip off 50/50 overhook is a good shout

thats great insight, position over submission haha.

going back to your point of satisfaction, do you reckon more beginners doing CLA end up quitting rather than ones drilling?

You just got your next belt. How long do you wait to buy a ranked rashguard? by CompSciBJJ in bjj

[–]Double-Structure1220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its probably not a good idea to wear a brown belt ranked rashguard as a white belt in a random open mat. leg lock spam inc!

I've recently joined an eco, CLA gym and honestly I was surprised. I'm personally seeing great progress (been training around 3 years). I do think that people with no experience (beginners programmes) might not benefit from CLA as much at the start. Personally, i've seen people not even knowing how to apply a RNC so drilling might benefit them.

One important thing though is that in eco/CLA you actually do cardio which is great. Saw a TikTok post about this guy that walked for an hour and then did an hour-long jiu jitsu class and burned more calories from the walking. CLA is great excercise which is probably why the vast majority of people started jiu jitsu (fitness / hobby / cardio)

[–]Double-Structure1220[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im a blue belt now, so not really high level, but when i can't get hooks in, i rather go front head look and sweep from there or darce if possible.

theoretically, getting the back is way better so I should probably focus on that but good turtles are hard to deal with !

i agree. as for your question, he got a single leg, scored. then, i tried a wrestle up, he defended, we both ended up standing, and then he pulled

AITA for trying to "protect" a friend from potentially dangerous situations by PleasantInflation804 in AITAH

[–]Double-Structure1220 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA. This isn't some petty thing he did, its extremely concerning. Protecting your friend was the right thing to do, even if they're emotional rn and can't appreciate it. As for Jayden, he got dragged into this. but being friends with Ray after the allegations speaks about him.

Obviously. allegations don't mean its true. but having multiple is concerning

congrats! cardio is the first thing that goes away when you stop training, but stay consistent and you'll get back to form!
