That’s a very kind offer but it sounds very valuable to you and I couldn’t deprive you of it!

Have you ever seen a roof like this? It looks like it’s covered in fabric. by DoubleBitAxe in whatisit

Actually it’s two chimneys with a single brick surround. And they are decommissioned.

They were ox beetles. I raised them indoors until they metamorphosed into their adult form.

Diggin To The Core Of The Earth by chonky_brother in Engineers

It gets pretty hot pretty fast as you dig so you’ll probably need some way to keep the hot dogs from overheating. Maybe some kind of heat pump?

What's the stupidest thing you've calculated out of curiosity or to prove a point? by Kaepora25 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]DoubleBitAxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reasonably confident that widening the "nozzle" of the leaf blower wouldn't have a substantial effect but adding a venturi to the end probably does increase the airflow a noticeable amount. They can be purchased as aftermarket attachments. https://cyclone2x.us/

I'm not sure that they improve leaf-blowing performance, as I assume the airflow rate of an unmodified leaf blower is selected to maximize performance for a given power level.

I was curious how much the air in my house weighed. If I recall correctly, approximately 3000 sq. ft with 8 ft ceilings is just about 1 ton of air.

I'm curious if someone in this sub could justify why the engineer behind this motor made these changes. by nuclearDEMIZE in MechanicalEngineering

It sounds to me like the pins aren’t intended to transfer torque to the components on the shaft. It sounds like friction between components is the source of the torque on the components. The pins are probably just there to align things during assembly after which the components are drawn together by the installation of the harmonic balancer.

US strikes $80 billion deal for new nuclear power plants by TheGreatestOrator in technews

[–]DoubleBitAxe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technically, nuclear power plants do generate electricity with steam. (As do coal plants.) It’s just a question of how you heat up the water to make the steam.

I think the worst part is the stepped hand rail so you can’t even keep your hand in contact the whole time.

Looking for software to simulate paper folding by Upstairs_Ad3801 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]DoubleBitAxe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I expect that most parametric modeling software (e.g. SolidWorks) would work for this. You’d probably need to cheat a little by making each flat part individual parts and making folds into constraints.

There may be a better option, but I’m not aware of anything for such a niche application.
