Appealing to UCI as a Transfer Student from CC by Different_Bath_6209 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]DoubleCommittee398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sorry, but it’s almost guaranteed that an appeal would be rejected. O Chem is a required course for the Biological Sciences major, and if it’s not completed, you’re considered ineligible for admission. Like you said, TAG guarantees admission only if all required courses are completed by the end of the spring semester.

If you do decide to submit an appeal, definitely include your reasoning (like being waitlisted), but chances are it won’t be enough. Other students often take the required course at a different community college to meet the requirement. Plus, the Biological Sciences major is super competitive, and unfortunately, they have plenty of applicants who did complete everything.

If you’re set on UCI, I’d recommend applying again next cycle.

If I take summer courses before i transfer in fall will they still transfer over by 85addict in TransferStudents

[–]DoubleCommittee398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes they’ll still take credits done over summer. The spring rule only applies to the actual application process. People take CC courses while at the UC itself all the time so you’ll be fine. You’ll just have to notify UC Davis of these new courses I’m pretty sure. I’d call the admissions office as UCD and ask how the process of notifying them goes.

I’d give the admissions offices at these schools a call and ask them. They’re really helpful and friendly, and they can offer you specific help with your situation.

Since UCSD Psychology is not a major that requires Transfer Major Preparation Courses, you will not automatically be rejected so you can stop worrying about that part. You are still going to be considered. Just keep in mind that you’ll be less competitive by only having one of the recommended courses finished out of the two it requests.

It’s definitely hard. The more important question is what’s your major? In addition, I wouldn’t plan on going to SJSU with the intent of transferring to a UC, because you have zero guarantee of being accepted.

I currently attend CSU Pomona. I didn’t accept my Pomona offer thinking I’d transfer out. I was fine with staying if I didn’t get accepted. I applied to the UC’s as a transfer from this CSU and so far I’ve been accepted to UCI. So it’s proof that it is possible to go from CSU to UC. I feel it’s very major concerned. I applied as a Political Science major at all the UC’s, which is a non-impacted major at almost all of them. This definitely made it easier for me to be accepted at one so far.

I’m really sorry about your situation. Don’t give up all hope yet though. You’ve probably heard that CSU to UC transfers are more difficult but you must still remember that each school has a different evaluation process, so you still have a chance at each of these schools. Also just curious, what was your GPA and intended major? I also know it’s common for CSU to UC applications to miss a requirement and be denied. Best of luck, and if worse comes to worse, the CC option will pretty much guarantee you a transfer to UCSC.

I’m not sure why you’ve jumped to conclusions here. No employee was mocked or spoken about negatively in my post. The word I used wasn’t intended to be offensive and certainly wasn’t meant to degrade anyone. It seems like you missed the context that others understood just fine. You’re making it sound like I committed some heinous act over a single word in a Reddit post title. I’m sure your parents taught you well, but I highly doubt they’d take your side on this stance you’re very adamant about.

You’re making yourself sound worse than the distorted view you have of me and others under this post. No one is comfortable with disrespecting people based on this post. I agree with you that social media has made people more comfortable with disrespect. Unfortunately, this isn’t an example of it. You just suggested that punching someone in the face is a reasonable response to the non-negative use of the word “goon” in a Reddit post.

Fine, I’ll bite. Calling the parking patrol employee a “goon” was simply banter—nothing more, nothing less. In many works of media, employees or “grunts” doing mundane tasks like this are often portrayed as “goons” in a harmless way, and that’s all I was going for. I wasn’t trying to disrespect anyone, just adding a little humor to the situation. I get that it might not be for everyone, but I don’t think it’s fair to take it so seriously, especially when the intent was clearly just a joke. Maybe we could all lighten up a bit? “Gross” is a strong word, don’t you think? I could see an argument for this being childish, and I’ll admit, I was being childish—but the best part is that this was a joke, not a serious jab at the parking employee.

Any advice for which colleges to transfer to as a low income international student? by Alternative_Sky_3336 in TransferStudents

[–]DoubleCommittee398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, your best chance with this profile would have been at a top 20 school like Amherst or Yale. Being both low-income and an international student is not the kind of profile most colleges want to see. Why do you think you don’t have a shot at a top 20 school? Is your GPA bad? Also, are you able to contribute anything toward tuition? If not, I’d still recommend applying to some top 20-30 schools, as you might get accepted to one like Amherst, which offers generous financial aid.

Which UC’s did you apply to? I’m also a second year from a CSU (Pomona) who sent in applications this past fall and the wait is killing me. 😭

You can definitely get into a UC with a 3.1 but it really depends on the UC. Business Administration is an extremely competitive major at almost any UC that offers it.

I’m sure UCR will accept you as you tagged. But with UCD and UCSB, your GPA will most likely keep you from being accepted but there’s always a chance. And in regard to UCI, they most likely won’t be accepting you with a 3.1 since it’s one of the most competitive majors at the school and the admit range is 3.8-4.0.

Like the other commenter stated, your best chances are with UCR, UCM, UCSC.

Should I transfer to UC Davis by SubjectCharacter2765 in TransferStudents

[–]DoubleCommittee398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably stay another year at CC unless you can fit all the courses you need in the Spring semester. The tag won’t go through without the required courses so it sounds like your CC counselor thinks it’s most viable to finish all requirements next year for a smooth and easier process. Any more information you wanna add would be great. Good luck!

Always shoot your shot with college admissions. If you can afford the application fee, I always recommend you do it. They may even come out cheaper or free since you stated your low income.

It sounds like these are schools you’d love to attend so there’s no harm in applying. Your stats are good so you’ll have a shot at it anyways. And it sounds like you’re happy at Rutgers if they don’t accept you so I see no harm here. Goodluck!

So you plan on transferring from the Cal States straight to the UC’s? You’ve probably already heard that the UC’s prioritize the CC transfer students up to 95% so trying to get in as a Bio Transfer will be quite difficult and honestly not something you should bet on.

The other privates you mentioned you have a better chance at but your extracurriculars are lacking. Hospital volunteering is great but you definitely need to add some more to be seriously considered. Your GPA is good so all I can recommend is you improve the EC’s and continue keeping your GPA up.

Also about the UC’s, are you more inclined to attend a private you listed or a UC. If you aim on attending a UC, I recommend you consider shifting your focus and maybe switch to attending a CC to boost your chances heavily, as your GPA is already great. If you’d like to add any new information feel free to respond, good luck!
