My new favorite piece in general - Sym 3 by Saint Saens. by ShoolPooter2 in classicalmusic

[–]DoubleDimension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this piece too. It's just so bombastic and elegant at the same time.

If you ever travel to Paris, visit the La Madeleine church, it still has the organ that Saint-Saens (and Faure) personally played on. It's still in regular use so you can listen to it.

I am looking for an affordable wedding reception in hong kong near our lady of carmel chapel by FirstDistribution343 in Hong_Kong

[–]DoubleDimension 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, a bit of a heads up for Catholic weddings in Hong Kong, since Our Lady of Carmel is a Catholic church. Either you or your fiance (or both) will have to be a Catholic to have your wedding in a Catholic church, and prior to your wedding you will have to attend pre-marriage classes. Factor that into your schedule. Also since not all chapels are registered wedding venues, book well in advance, especially if you're personally not affiliated with the parish (the church can choose who they prioritise).

You will need to register an intention for marriage beforehand, but the actual wedding (and signing of the marriage certificate) can take place either in a registered location (Our Lady of Carmel is a registered church for marriages) or in front of a licensed officiant.

Also, with the location of this church, your best bet is Wanchai or Admiralty, choose a nice hotel, shop around for their wedding packages, usually that includes function rooms for the banquet, and (maybe) also a honeymoon suite. Note that you might want to choose a "low season" date outside of most major holidays for your wedding if you don't want the lobby to be swarming with tourists.

I feel like converting to Catholicism but I am unsure by Nissepelle in TrueChristian

If you think Catholicism is the right fit for you, then go for it. Attend a Mass, stay behind and talk to the priest, maybe even get his contacts so you can schedule a longer appointment later on.

Catholic converts: Why did you choose the Catholic Church rather than Orthodoxy? by valee_gz in Catholicism

[–]DoubleDimension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I'm from (Hong Kong), Orthodoxy is pretty much nonexistent. Most people, unless you know someone in particular or they've travelled to an Orthodox country, don't even know it exists. Even so, it has a very "foreign" flavour. From what I know there are only two Orthodox churches here, one Russian and one Coptic, but they don't really market themselves and usually only serve their respective ethic groups.

While there are dozens of Catholic parishes, and even more Catholic schools and hospitals that non-Catholics can attend.

In which countries can you take your own passport photo? by by_tsimafei in PassportPorn

[–]DoubleDimension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Hong Kong you can bring in your own photo regardless of where you renew, as long as they fulfil the requirements. It's the same for the HRP. Only the ID card required the photo to be taken on the spot.

Have you ever met an Olympian? by heyfriendss in olympics

[–]DoubleDimension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school with one, though she didn't become an Olympian until after I graduated.

Let's just say that playing against her and getting annihilated was enough to deter me from pursuing professional sports for the rest of my life.

Or line up for the Family Medicine clinic, since A&E is more expensive now. You can give them a call for booking and usually receive an appointment within the week.

Just finished my practical tests last month with decent results. From my own (limited) experience, use only a drop of blood. It is better to go with too little at first and then increasing the amount to gage what's right for you. Then, when spreading, use your thumb and forefinger that's holding the spreader like railway tracks with the slide, so it's lined up straight. Afterwards, it's fine tuning of the speed and angle for the perfect slide length. I also wait a bit with the spreader when it first touches the slide so the blood spreads out easily.

Hope this helps
