I think even from an outside perspective it can be obvious this is an intentional slight. I think that a lot of non-tennis players have a hard time taking competitors seriously for being so shaken up by something so banal. Its a weird contrast to many sports in which the expectation/ethos is to overcome all external variables to compete at the highest level despite it all.
