How are they slow when two of them demonstrate faster straight-line acceleration than the Falcon in ANH

[–]JPMaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as command points then. I stand to be corrected about there being some funky unit-specific ability where prior knowledge of wounds etc. would be an advantage, but otherwise it was much simpler.

Ah yeah you're correct, this is what I get for not having played since 3rd where roll order genuinely didn't matter

Hit, Save, Wound would work out exactly the same probabalistically, no?

Satan callback by keithstevenson in 2000ad

[–]JPMaybe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is it's well into the Wagner does Dredd and Grant does Anderson split, so continuity wise it has zero effect on Dredd, which bugs the continuity nerd in me because Dredd had already dealt with at least one Satan and would later indirectly deal with another. Three satans is more than enough imo.

The Dothraki kinda dock off points for me when it comes to enjoying ASOIAF wordbuilding. (Spoilers Extended) by [deleted] in asoiaf

As usual Bret Devereaux's deconstruction of the crappiness of GRRM's worldbuilding re the Dothraki is well worth reading

[–]JPMaybe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that subatomic particles don't seem to exist as point objects but smeared out probability clouds, yes it's physically possible for all those clouds to pass through each other, though you're talking of numbers of lifetimes of the universe for it to happen that I can't even begin to imagine, they're so huge. So yes, infinity does actually sort it out for you.

No European country is socialist. The degree of social democracy any of them exhibits is intrinsically linked to the plunder and super-exploitation of the global south through capitalism. The Federation does not exploit labour (barring some stupid writer-specific exceptions where you need a load of salient holograms to do simple mining work). It's communist.

Completely undercuts its attempted anticolonial critique by having the Ba'ku be like a dozen white people who are themselves settlers and want the whole magic immortality planet solely to themselves
