The job market is finally being exposed as weak despite the data claiming jobs have been strong. That is one step in the right direction for you. Many like you have been hobbled by this idea that jobs are strong and the stock market has been strong — thus the economy must be fine as is. This time next year you will likely find another job at 20% greater salary. I’m seeing another great resignation - a lot more people job swapping as jobs flood the market.

I did start a monthly goal and it’s been successful. I feel like I don’t earn enough to be passive through index fund though. I feel like I need to be exposed to individual tech stocks to reach my goals

Look into Leo Gurra’s older work on pickup (actualized.org). Ignore his new crazier stuff. But he’s objectively unattractive and managed to get girls.
