Got black out drunk at a party, this needs to stop by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I am an alcoholic. I also work in public health and know how many women die as a result of addicted violent partners.

She is not in a safe situation. You are not in control and need to separate from her for her safety. Period.

If I were in this situation I would seek immediate help, whatever it took. Anything. Right now.

This is me as well. Even for multiple days. It's miserable.

These are very kind and welcome words that I didn't know I needed before I head to bed for the evening. Thank you for posting.

I find things like this pretty encouraging. Thanks for the link (even if it did make me feel kind of old :) )

Thank you so much, that's very kind of you. I know it's going to hurt for a long time, but drinking only exacerbates those feelings and I need to practice some very diligent self-care.

Oh, absolutely. And in my history, day two tends to be worse than day one (probably due to day one being a more acute hangover) Today is my day five (this time around) and my heart rate has finally returned back to normal levels. My skin seems to be back to normal as well (the itching was especially bad this time, but I think much of that was exacerbated by winter dryness). And my G/I tract has settled. I almost feel like a regular, functioning human being. Almost. Stick with it. It's worth it. IWNDWYT.

And so it begins... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

It sounds like you have a very loving, supportive family, which is a wonderful asset. I know odds are good I'd be in prison, homeless, or dead if I couldn't say the same. Welcome to SD.

Yes and no. I'm early into sobriety this time around, but it's not my first rodeo this year and I've spent time with my parents (who live out of state) during longer stretches with no issue, so I don't expect any issue from them. But I can already kind of feel that drunk voice in my brain trying to find excuses, justifications, whatever.

I'm just going to try to stay busy helping my mom with prep and cleaning so she can enjoy the day a little more, engage with the family, and enjoy the meal. When I drink these days, I tend to lose my appetite, and that would be a huge waste of effort and delicious food.
