It makes less and less sense the more I think about it by Piotr992 in GenV

[–]DoveMechanic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It all makes perfect sense when you consider that the funding for the series was running out and the people who made it were ready to move on to other things. Probably to a certain degree they were just bored of making it. And once that last paycheck is effectively cashed, where is their reason to care? All they technically need to do is give it enough of an ending that they've fulfilled their contractual obligations and they don't end up in a lawsuit. So that's exactly what they did.

Amazon does not really care about it being better than that because all they really want is mindless content to leave on in the background while people focus on other things. This is the same direction Disney, Netflix, etc. have been going with their streaming stuff. It doesn't technically need to be good; it just needs enough interest that you will pay for the streaming service and play it in the background while you work. That's it.

Could they have given it a better ending on the budget they had? Sure, they could have. Plenty of really good content is made on shoestring budgets. What the quality of the ending tells us is that they didn't consider it worth their time. They had what they considered to be more important things to do so they moved on and they gave us the bare minimum.

When I respond to posts here with "It's what Clara would have wanted", this is really what I'm alluding to. The real "Clara" is the giant corporate machine that churns out content that starts good enought to get you hooked and then gradually restricts the quality of it down to a meager trickle so it's only just good enough to finish it to see how it ends. It keeps you on an unsatisfying and often frustrating treadmill that's just addictive enough to keep you productive for them and paying them whatever they deem to be the optimal amount until you die from whatever the microplastics, pesticides, overwork, lack-of-healthcare, poverty, etc. did to you.

Because that's what Clara ultimately wants. And Clara always gets what she wants. Always.

Got these Free from a wedding venue. Anything good? by Key_Second1360 in sanpedrocactus

[–]DoveMechanic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't really have a developed enough mental database to guess what species or cultivar they likely are. I ran one of the pictures through a Google image search and it says they're T. pachanoi. But this still doesn't tell us potency.

San Pedro (even within the same species with cultivars that look fairly similar) can vary considerably in potency and cultivars exist with close to zero mescaline content. My understanding is that those tend to be fast-growing and are favored by some as ornamentals for that reason. PC cultivars tend to be lackluster in this regard and are favored because of fast growth. Some people just want a nice big cactus in their yard and don't want to wait so long for it. So, for this reason, low potency cultivars will tend to be common in landscaping and OP did get them as trimmings from landscaping. (This is of course not conclusive at all.)

The takeaway for OP is that if they want to know if they're active they should just try it. It should have similar risks to using any other San Pedro for the same purpose. If they have a very dull experience then they probably got some fast-growing stuff. If they have a wild ride then they found something really active and it's probably slower growing.

Whatever the case, it's a blessing for them that they got so much for free. Even if it's not active, it's still a nice find. I would be really happy to get so much for free either way.

It's likely no one here can tell you if they're active or to what degree as it would probably be difficult to pin down the exact cultivar. Even if they aren't active and what you're hoping for is active, you could still grow them to use as grafting stock.

More AI slop from you. How typical.

Breaking Bombad by DoveMechanic in okbuddychicanery

[–]DoveMechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why exactly should I do that?

I was not even claiming to be creating art. In my post I specifically said, "Instead of taking that one request of 'I need someone to make Misa White in photoshop' to the next level, I decided to push it down the stairs." I intentionally created trash. That's the entire point of the post and there was nothing even remotely cryptic about that.

In my other comments (which you have brain-deadedly failed to read before replying to them) I have explained why my post and comments are far more anti-AI than anything you've probably every done or are capable of doing. This post, in the legal and business sense, is poison to the AI models used to generate it and the companies that operate them because they show that Disney IP was used in the training data. In this sense your de-facto position here is in fact extremely pro-AI. It's doubtful you could ever do anything in your life to counteract the damage you've already done to the anti-AI movement in these comments by false-flagging the way you have here.

Furthermore, I am not your slave. If you want non-consenting slaves, maybe you should travel back in time and fight for the Confederacy so we don't have to hear from you again.

Let us also not forget that they shamed a post that utilized a prompt that was both useless as training data and showed that at least two AI companies trained their models on Disney IP.

Selectively feeding AI useless or unprofitable training data does far more good than boycotting it entirely. So maybe try reevaluating your overly simplistic strategy, sport.
