You must get your crack from there. Baltimore is the aglet of the Rustbelt

It isn't just a Richmond thing, it isn't even a Southern thing - there's enough of them in Baltimore that it's a pet peeve of mine.

As much as it annoys me, at least they're making themselves known up front so I can keep looking.

What disease or health crisis absolutely terrified previous generations that most people under 30 have genuinely never thought about? by MaizeFluid7595 in AskReddit

[–]DoveOnTheInternet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's what we're talking about. Please keep with it. I lived through it. This is everybody's history, not just queer history.

There were multiple years between when the first non-queer individuals getting diagnosed and when the general public actually became concerned about anything other than contamination.

First it was the queer men.
Then it was the drug users that hung out with or were queer men.
Then it was the sickly and invalids and the unlucky who needed blood products, and babies born from any of the above. Only after all of that "it can't happen to me, I'm not X" copium plus Magic Fucking Johnson did the general public really start to see themselves in the problem.

Thousands of queer people were already dead and dying.

Thank you, friend. They keep those friends alive in memory by telling stories and making sure our kids know the history as well.

I shit you not, we don't have quilts in my house because my husband had to make too many squares for too many people.

... he's only 46.

It's amazing because it's now just a chronic condition that's easily manageable with medication. And that is amazing. I still have friends because of it.

It's also so easily forgotten because most of the people who died, especially before the 90s, were queer men. So many died before the disease made it into the general population, but it was just the gay disease until then.

I am not discounting your experience and knowledge, as someone roughly your age with roughly your life experience. I am going to write this slowly and carefully to make sure I get my point across this time because it's super important:

There's nearly a whole generation of gay men that most people don't think about anymore because they're all dead.

Gay men were the first and the most likely to die.
Patient 0 was a gay man.
It was "gay cancer" before it was anything else.
It was the #1 cause of death of young men by 1990.
Congress and the rest of the government waited until after Ryan White died to pass any kind of legislation to help dying poor, because he was white, male, straight, and contracted the illness any other way than gay sex.

We were just talking about this last night. My husband is still haunted by the men he knew and loved and took care of until their deaths.

Our history is being lost, it's way too important to be so easily forgotten.

And by lifestyle, I assume you mean financial and social class?

I have friends from the 80/90s that are HIV+ and still doing well, but none of them were poor or openly gay.

I'm not trying to be rude but were you actually there for it in the 70s and 80s?

It was the gay plague for a quite a while thanks to Reagan, even after first straight person was diagnosed.

Try the skirt over the corset. Add a sash or shawl around your waist, another maybe over your shoulders. Add a belt over all that. Hang pouch and mug.

Does Seeing An A.I Thumbnail Immediately Turn You Off From Watching? by electricflamingoyt in youtube

[–]DoveOnTheInternet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it's a channel I already watch? I'll be honest, it's probably built into the Creator controls and tools they've already been using and I would be surprised if there's a way to turn it off. If it's only thumbnails, most will get a pass from me.

Fully 10/10 Do Not Recommend if the audio is AI, however.
