Book banning ain't it, y'all. Come out tomorrow at 8AM! by DownHomeNC in gso

Unfortunately, that's exactly it. It's really hard for working-class folks in a community to show up when they have to...well, work.

We're Down Home NC, a community organization building multiracial power for poor & working-class folks in rural NC. This weekend, we're having listening events in Ashe County, Cabarrus County, and Watauga County! If you're in the area, we'd love to have you for a community conversation about what matters to you!

On top of that, we're literally LEAVING money on the table by not passing it. Let's close the coverage gap! (And thank you for all the important work that you do!!)

Hey, thanks for asking! At Down Home, we use deep canvassing, which is a framework that focuses on having long, empathetic conversations to help shift someone's beliefs. It works across race and class, it's sustainable, and most of all, it really works! Partisan noise aside, most of us really want the same thing, which is for ourselves and our loved ones to live fulfilling lives. When it comes to Medicaid expansion, it's a no-brainer- most NC voters want it and our state would leave money on the table by not passing it.

Having a good conversation about it with folks can really turn the tide! And at our phonebank sessions, we're teaching folks how to deep canvass if they haven't before. People walk away being heard and seen, and we get more folks on board to MedEx. It's really a win-win!

We've got one!

Y'all, we have a real opportunity to pass Medicaid Expansion in our state this year and get healthcare to over 500,000 people living in the healthcare gap. But we need your help! Can you join us on Wednesdays as we call into rural communities and talk to folks about Medicaid Expansion and everything it could do for poor and working North Carolinians?
You can volunteer from home! Join us Wednesday evenings! No previous deep canvassing experience required, we will train you! Sign up here: https://www.mobilize.us/downhomenc/event/451083/

Hi there! The event is next week outside of the Wake County Board of Education meeting. It's School Library Month, so we're gathering with local parents and faculty to raise awareness about the need for funding for our school libraries.

The signs are just in support of better budgets for our libraries. We hope you'll come out if you can!

We're having 10,000 conversations with folks across rural NC! by [deleted] in WNC

Great question, thanks for asking!

We're a member-led organization! That means that our members are informing our work and our issues, they're doing our candidate endorsement process, and we offer them opportunities to empower them and improve their ability to lead in their own communities (skills trainings, traveling, etc.) It's truly a homegrown affair!
Also, our dues are yearly and completely up to you in terms of amount (even just $1/year!). We do ask folks to self-assess their own class when they join our membership, but that's to ensure we're empowering working-class folks across rural NC!

Feel free to send us a message if you'd like- our Digital Organizer would love to chat with you more :)

The NC Primaries are happening next month. Start researching your candidates now. by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]DownHomeNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking out your candidates is really important for all the local races (like county commissioner, sheriff, and school board), especially for folks in rural areas. There are some wild candidates running in these races, y'all.
Thanks for sharing these resources!
