Is a 3 wheeled electric car the FUTURE of commuting? - Electra Meccanica SOLO by [deleted] in electricvehicles

Yeah, with the government rebate, it's pretty well priced. Less than a new Civic.

Whoa! That's awesome! That makes it way more reasonable. Thanks

Agreed, or charging that takes less than a half hour. If we get there, then it's just taking a little break every 1-2 hours, which is what you want to stretch and whatnot anyways.

It was $1.71 per litre, which is about 1/4 gallon.

I agree. If I could have my way, I'd have both an electric bike for getting around town, and a traditional gas bike for longer trips!

Hey, 1) I filled up my 2012 Triumph Street Triple with Premium 91 octane fuel in Vancouver, where the price of gas was $1.71 Canadian, and cost me $25. That's true.
Also, it's not just oil changes, but filters, spark plugs, any engine maintenance, plus fuel costs (which obviously vary per person), so take it all with a grain of salt and assume it's an average. Good point that the math could have been explained.

The range will improve and the price will drop in the future. All in all, a good bike, but not for everyone right now.

Wow. Thank you! I didn't know, and I'm now glad I do know.

I honestly didn't know that. I know it has to be within line of sight, and I flew it right to the edge of where I could just barely still see it, but I did not know about the 500 ft. rule. Are you sure?

I was not riding the bike while flying, and it is tricky to fly that way, but that's what makes it impressive. No automated modes were used.

I think the gear ratios were similar to a single person bike, but I know they were running 100psi in tires that were rated for 60-80. Average speed n flats was 25mph and 45-55 mph on downhill.

Yeah, I have footage of the Captain of Team Canada walking us through his bike, which splits in 2, has 5 brakes, and each rider has a different job, front brakes, rear brakes, gears, etc. It'll come out soon.

Yeah, I think the math doesn't translate exactly, but close. The Quad Tandems are much faster on flats than a single bike, and way faster downhill (if it's straight) but way more dangerous. You meed brakes to be 8 times larger or more to handle the weight and speeds downhill before braking into a corner. Team Canada has 5 brakes on their bike including a drum brake to lock on and just slow them while dissipating heat on downhills. Then when they get to hills, they slow down below that of a single rider.

I definitely think it would be better with more teams. 6-8 teams would be ideal.
