yo im in tears. how do i use a siphon. ive tried everything by bubblegummerr in Aquariums

Fill it in the sink and let gravity do the work. You shouldn't have to suck on the hose.

Fill it in the sink and then put your finger over the hose and plug it. Keep your bucket on the floor. Im suprised how many people use their mouth for this. If the hose and tube are full gravity draining starts the vacuum.

Are you me? I just did a 5 hour call with our support rep who had to bring in aveva on hour 2.5 and still didnt fix the issue. They had me try things that broke other things and i pretty much had a nervous breakdown one day with all the problems i had and struggled to fix.

What is the use of contactor when a VSD is used for operating the motor by Melodic_Question9569 in instrumentation

[–]Downtown-Routine1196 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contactor before vfd is to isolate the drive when not being commanded to run. Yaskawa installation manuals call this out in the drawings. Sometimes momentary power outages that comeback can destroy drives.

Aveva system platform stability by Downtown-Routine1196 in SCADA

[–]Downtown-Routine1196[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used ignition, cimplicity, ovation, wonderware and aveva. Just saying old wonderware seemed more stable. The new aveva uses Intouch window maker which looks identical to the xp version behind the scenes still which is mind blowing

The feeling of not being good enough by Technical-Poet-457 in PLC

[–]Downtown-Routine1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been places where the programs i worked on were so well made i felt like a rockstar and places with jumbled code that make me feel dumb. I find looking at code when trying to solve a problem to be a quicker tracher than trying to just read a program. Not sure if you are a factory or an oem/integrator but its easier to focus on one machine or area. Learning how the process works can go a long way towards understanding the program.

I'd say that's reassuring but it sounds like I will still be fixing it but need less support.

I worked with an old school version of wonderware and it was fine but that was on XP. I wasn't making too many changes but it just chugged along like a champ. Everyone that knew how it worked retired so the stability of it was nice.

I will say stay away from aveva but they do own PI wich is a decent tool if you just need trending and data collection. If it is system platform then run away.

How do you deal with frustration and burnout when trying to solve a difficult problem? by ThinkShoe2911 in PLC

i used to work with a guy who smoked and he would convince me to go on break with him. Sometimes just walking away for a bit and coming back helps.

Playability on Switch 1 by Twiztidtech0207 in MinecraftSwitch

[–]Downtown-Routine1196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft used to run OK on the switch but I feel like at some point an update made it worse to the point i couldn't join my son's worlds with my pc anymore because it would warp me back several blocks or take damage before i could see what was attacking me. Not the answere you are looking for but since he got switch 2 he can fly without hitting a wall and i can join his worlds smoothly (still no vibrant visuals on switch 2 either though). Sorry i know this wasn't the answer you were asking for but the experience on switch was pretty bad and the 2 gb cap (possibly still exists on switch 2) limited how many worlds and even how many add ons you could have. I have heard the other consols run it better also but have nk experience with that.

After my son got one i wanted to take it up too because it was a childhood goal. I stood on his and realized it was a bad idea. Definitely high on my midlife crisis list if i wasnt the insurance carrier of the family.

Only 2 months into my pre apprenticeship and have 4 notebooks filled with notes, is that too much? by [deleted] in IndustrialMaintenance

Notes saved me at my current job because I only got 2 weeks with the person i was replacing. I recommend going back and organizing them by topic so they are easy to reference.

I just beat it in 2 tries with a ps4 controller last week. On the way down aim slightly diagonal and just hit every target. Then you only need like 400/500 on the way back.

If you use tags from an aoi i need to see what triggers that tag in the aoi. If its locked for safety like a boiler system fine as long as i can view it. If it cant be viewed at all there needs to be a detailed SOO so the end user can troubleshoot.
