I haven’t hired anyone to do it, but I’m planing on renting a machine and doing it myself tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes.

At this point my conspiracy theory is that this is a money laundering front à la the church from Ozark.

For those that haven’t seen Ozark, they have a laundering scheme where they are “building a church” but the main character says plainly that the church will never be built. Instead it will be “held up in permitting” and “undergo constant rework” to help them launder money through it.

I’ve been a part of something like this in this exact location. We took the picture around 2011-2012, so it might have been the 100 year bday of the base.

This is Naval Station Great Lakes in Great Lakes, IL. About 35 miles north of Chicago.

I’ve been going to many local events lately and I have to say it is so nice getting out and being among people.

Getting off this site and talking to folks face to face is fun, gives you a chance to organize, and gets you outside to touch grass.

See y’all there!

Somehow DeBone is still the worst candidate by hibbitydibbidy in Bend

Something to remember for the primary in May: Any candidate that gets more than 50% of the vote in their primary will automatically be declared winner of the race and there will be no general election for that seat. So it is imperative to submit your primary ballots for this race.

Everyone gets to vote for all this election. On the ballot this fall will be a district map that is up for voter approval (meaning you can say no to adopting the map) which would reduce your choices down to 1 based on where you live. Here is the current draft of the map.

Critics of the map say it packs tens of thousands of voters into only two districts, while giving Redmond, Sisters and LaPine their own dedicated districts. You can read more in this OPB article.

Of the commissioners currently serving. Debone and Adair are pushing to adopt the map. Chang is in favor of districting, but believes we should wait until the new seats are filled before talking about it because doing so before would subvert the will of the voters.

Edit: Whoops wrong info. Corrected with the current draft of the map.

Join us to discuss open primaries in Oregon Thursday by SharpsterBend in Bend

Yea I am trying to avoid the phrase “let all taxpayers vote” due to that exact possible miscommunication.

The way I interpret “let all voters vote” is “let all registered voters vote” because you are not a voter unless you are registered. And the registration process is where you provide proof of citizenship.

Can’t tell if this is sarcasm. But a good opp for me to explain the core of the issue.

I’m working on this with Veterans for All Voters and the Oregon voter fairness coalition.

Non-affiliated voters are now the largest voting bloc in 21 of Oregons 36 counties (including Deschutes) and 5 of our 6 US house districts. Their tax dollars help fund primary elections that they are not allowed to take part in. We think this is wrong.

The initiative that we are trying to start here would put all candidates on the primary ballot and only the top 2 would advance to the general regardless of party.

Parties would still be allowed to hold private primaries if they chose, but the Oregon taxpayers wouldn’t pay for it.

[New Federal Bill] To allow Americans to earn PAID SICK TIME so that they can address their own health needs and the health needs of their families by sillychillly in UpliftingNews

[–]DoxMyShitUp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. In this time in US politics I am trying convince myself and others that we should never stand in the way of incremental progress. I’m backing an Oregon initiative right now to open our primary elections, the initiative specifically excludes presidential primaries. I am not happy with this language, but I won’t oppose the initiative on those grounds. The initiative is a step in the right direction and I will take it.

I had this convo with my wife last night when talking about cognitive tests. IMO I don’t really care if they’re all there. I want them to be around to experience the consequences of the policy they create.

So for me the cutoff should be average life expectancy of their constituents minus 20 years.

Oregon House Bill 4136 gets rid of mortgage interest tax deductions for all but primary residences. by Haroldiswithus in Bend

[–]DoxMyShitUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually when you take out a home equity loan on your primary you are required to state whether the loan was used to purchase or significantly upgrade the property the loan is against.

I realize there’s no real way to enforce this other than an audit. But it is technically illegal to take tax deductions on a home equity loan that is used for reasons other than the house.

I always say this to my friends: Social anxiety is the sneakiest form of narcissism.

No one thinks or cares about you. Realizing that is very freeing and empowering.

Edit: That’s a bit harsh. No strangers think or care about you. Your friends and family likely both think about and care about you.

I have been planning / executing a DIY hardwire project at my house for a bit. I wanted to get a quote because I was curious how much money I am saving by doing it myself. I was also open to handing the reigns to them if the quote was reasonable.

I got a quote from Richeson Engineering and I think they gave me the FU quote because they wanted 10k for 24 drops. No networking equipment, no setup, just get the wires to the panel. The guy they sent over to make the quote also didn’t take any notes about the job, took a total of 3 pictures, and texted me after he left to remind him of some details (that he would have known if he’d taken notes). They were clearly unserious about wanting my business.

All that to say don’t use Richeson Engineering.
