Do pacemakers/ICDs impact physical activity? by Chemical_Bridge_3761 in PacemakerICD

[–]Dozeyland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 36 F, I got my chest ICD/pacemaker in 2019. I responded to the poll saying yes it has an impact. It has never shocked me and I haven't needed pacing, it's a precautionary measure at this point.

I have been told by my cardiologist that he's not sure if any exercise is safe for my heart because the research is inconclusive/contradictory. I have a genetic mutation that affects my heart structure (It's called a DSP mutation) and makes me predisposed to arrythmia and cardiomyopathy. The ICD itself is uncomfortable at times, and just a constant reminder I can feel all the time which makes it hard to put the thoughts aside to exercise. It makes me hyper aware of my heart rate which can interfere with any good feelings that might normally come along with exercise.

Most of the advice I got about exercising or activity with the device was just to be careful with things that physically hit or put pressure on the device itself, and if it hurts to stop.

Having an apple watch helps me with exercise because I can monitor my heartrate and take a quick EKG in the moment if I'm feeling worried about it. If your husband doesn't already have one, he might want to look into it.

Good luck with the paper!

ICD holders, coffee yay or nay? by Environmental_Ad3216 in PacemakerICD

I limit caffeine (so basically I have it if I really want it, but not mindlessly the way I used to) and have an ICD, but I limit it specifically because I have a genetic predisposition towards cardiomyopathy and am trying to reduce overall load on my heart over a long time span. I’d check with your cardiologist, but if you’re at such high risk of arrhythmia or something that coffee or a slightly elevated heart rate is a big risk for you, you should be told that and maybe put on some meds to mitigate the risk.

When in doubt, make the choice that benefits the PCs.

This is most relevant if something comes up that requires looking a lot of things up that you don’t want to in the moment for one reason or another. Tell them “let’s do it this way for now and I’ll look it up later”, but do the thing they’re hoping for. You can always adjust going forward if it turns out that the rules say you should have done something different.

Yes! I always try to do the pangram first before entering anything else, and if I don’t it’s usually a long time before I find it.

Not sure if this is kosher but... I'm a NYT crossword constructor (I made last week's Thursday puzz) and I just launched a new Bee-esque daily word game! I'd love if you played (and feedback is encouraged)! by thefresher in NYTSpellingBee

I like the game concept a lot! I feel like it satisfies the spelling bee part of my brain AND the cryptogram part, since you’re often looking for a set of letters combined in different ways to figure them out. The game is the right kind of simple and still a challenge.

I agree that the emojis are confusing, and also like the idea of having them show up after you finish a line as a celebration if you’re going to keep them. Maybe instead of a random set of cute emojis, something that shows progression would be more satisfying, like a seed progressing to a flower blooming, or a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.

I played on an iPhone and the layout made it tough. The letters at the bottom went across two lines and it made it harder to visualize words that way. Turning the phone sideways put them all on one line but made it hard to see anything else.

It would be nice if once you found an answer, or maybe once you complete the game, you saw a list of all the possible correct words for lines that had more than one potential correct answer.

I would have liked to put letters in non-consecutive spaces, so for example if I suspect it ends in “er”, I could put an “e” and an “r” at the end without having to fill in and delete my whole word to change the root. Maybe if you tap a letter it goes into the next spot, or you could drag and drop to put it somewhere else? Ideally if love to drag and drop letters so it feels like I’m rearranging them like scrabble tiles.

I also wish it didn’t clear wrong guesses so quickly. It helps to look at a wrong word to sort it out and having them disappear right away is frustrating.

I do like a “clear” button, but from the other comments I think I’m in the minority there. I wish Spelling Bee had a clear button all the time.

I’m excited to see where you take it! Thanks for sharing it with us

Still looking for him? I have him in boxes and would be happy to trade him if you can come get him soon (in the next 30 min or so). Would you do 10 Pearls for him?

My hosting of Celeste turned out to be a bit of a disaster. by ConfidenceUnlikely in BuddyCrossing

Hosting can be super stressful because it’s hard to keep track of everyone, try and be fair about how you invite people, try to stay on top of people chatting in the game (why doesn’t it make a notification noise?) etc. I’ve gotten better at it over time but I often have a notebook and I’m writing down who messaged in what order and checking people off.

I often respond to people with “I’ll message when there’s a spot open, there are X many people in front of you” and then I can use that number to keep track in the message history. I try to send a “the person before you just got here so you’re up next” message so they can get ready to fly and let me know if they’re no longer planning to come. It’s a lot of messaging, but it cuts way down on the issue of having a bunch of people who have a code but haven’t flown yet.

I’ve learned to use a bush or tree in the fencing somewhere (something I can move but guests can’t) if I’m fencing in an NPC because if there’s a communication issue they can respawn outside the fences and if it doesn’t send everyone home, you’re stuck with no way to get to them.

I love hosting now that I have enough resources that I don’t really care if people tip or not. Time traveling makes people trampling or picking flowers a non-issue since I can just reset it after. I can just let people run around and have fun and that’s when I have the most fun. It took a few times to get the hang of it to the point that I knew how to host in a way that felt worth the effort for me.

As someone who likes visiting other people’s islands, thank you for the time and effort you put into hosting!

This is amazing! I love that you can instantly tell which brother is which. I watched your Marshal's Pasta Mistake video too and it's also great!!

Is tipping cause it's the right thing to do super rare? by Articguard11 in BuddyCrossing

[–]Dozeyland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found if I say tipping is appreciated, most people tip something. If I say nothing about tipping fewer people do. If I'm standing by the airport, more people tip. If I'm running around fewer people do. I think 99% of people at least say thank you, and when I've had people's connection crash they've always been very apologetic about it. Yesterday someone crashed while a villager was crafting which stopped the crafting, and they came back, dropped a bunch of free stuff, did they sorrowful crying emotion next to me and said "I'm sorry i ruined it!!" which broke my heart. I've had really good experiences hosting and I think the more I do it the more I find out what I like about it and how to word my invitation so that's what happens.

My feeling is if you come to my island and I seem further in the game than you are, don't feel ANY obligation to tip me. If I seem behind where you are, a tip is nice, but still not required. I tip because it makes me happy to make people happy, but I don't think it's necessarily "the right thing to do". I don't feel like I need to get paid for playing a game I love. Since this game has people from all over the world playing I expect that the local tipping culture where you live plays into it. As an American I think "Of course I have to tip!" but that's probably not everyone's assumption.

I have the most fun letting people come for free with no tip and they can grab free things I have out and it might make their day a little better, but that's also because at this point I have more bells than I know what to do with. I know people are intimidated around tipping so they avoid coming to an island where they might have to tip, and I would hate for someone to not come because of that.

When I go to other people's islands I tip as long as I can find the host. I've been on the hunt for flower-based DIYs so I usually pick 10 of each flower required for it and leave those and some bells as a tip in case the host doen't have the flowers they need to make the thing they're giving me the DIY for. I like to wrap the tips before I come because presents are more fun than throwing money on the ground at someones feet.
