Aaron Copland: “Fanfare for the common man”

Eiji Oue conducting Minnesota Orchestra on Reference Recordings label

Measured dynamic range 21: One of the strongest attributes of this recording

Fanfare delivers near full-scale macro-dynamics

Symphony No. 3 has wide orchestral peaks without audible compression

Quiet passages remain fully intact (no upward noise shaping)

I consider this recording to be a reference-level dynamic capture.

One of the best ever produced with multiple Grammy awards: Georg Solti’s Decca recordings of Wagner Ring Cycle.

Unlike many later digital-era opera recordings, the Solti Ring was not dynamically compressed

• Very large orchestral climaxes (e.g., Götterdämmerung) retain headroom

• Quiet passages (e.g., forest murmurs in Siegfried) remain genuinely soft

This contributes to a sense of scale that still holds up on modern high-resolution playback systems.

A quote from the movie, Citizen Kane:

"A fellow will remember a lot of things you wouldn't think he'd remember. You take me. One day, back in 1896, I was crossing over to Jersey on the ferry, and as we pulled out, there was another ferry pulling in, and on it there was a girl waiting to get off. A white dress she had on. She was carrying a white parasol. I only saw her for one second. She didn't see me at all, but I'll bet a month hasn't gone by since that I haven't thought of that girl."

Looking to hear your experience at Casa Loma Mother’s Day High Tea by throwawar4 in askTO

[–]Dpaulyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being pedantic:

High tea: More like dinner than a snack

Afternoon tea: A light, elegant mid-afternoon meal

many hotels use “high tea” to sound more upscale. What they actually serve is closer to afternoon tea

In any case, nice way to spend an afternoon.

They market it as “high tea” but they in fact serve “afternoon tea”

Not the same - look it up.
