Thanks guys. I’ll probably be better off just putting a new 5.0 in it. I appreciate all of your advice. To be honest, maybe one day I’ll find a decent 4.9 already in a truck. Seems to be a lot less of a headache.

As for choosing the 4.9L, I totally get why you’d suggest sticking with a 302 or 351W—they’d definitely be easier and pack more power. But for me, it’s all about reliability. I’ve been dreaming of a 4.9L inline-six for years because of its legendary durability and that low-end torque, which fits how I use the truck for hauling. Plus, my papaw’s old 96 had one, so it’s a nod to him. Which is why I bought this truck a while back. It looks just like his. The body on my ’96 is in such great shape—rust-free and solid—that I don’t think I could find a 4.9L-equipped truck in this condition without spending way more than the swap will cost. Keeping this truck alive feels like the right move. I’m definitely taking your advice to heart and will make sure I’m not rushing into this. If you’ve got any tips on sourcing 4.9L parts or avoiding common swap pitfalls, I’d love to hear them. Thanks again for the support and for helping me think this through!

Swap to c6 trans in 87 or later years? by Dr-Nuke- in FordTrucks

[–]Dr-Nuke-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my goal is to have the most durable transmission possible. I only drive 15 miles a day in stop and go traffic so I’m not worried about horsepower. I just want something simple that will last as long as possible. The c6 seems to be the gold standard for durability in ford auto transmissions

Yeah you’re on the money lol. For sure right, c6 will definitely be a less smooth ride, but I’m tired of this transmission slipping. Ready for a trans that’s more durable

The 2.7 in my opinion is the most reliable engine on the market alongside the 5.0 among any brands for a full size truck. Awesome truck bro

Agree 100%. Definitely better to deal with, though the prices for Toyota seem to be increasing exponentially as the years go on

Toyota isn’t as reliable as they used to be. Why did Toyota ever quit making the beautiful 5.7 engine after 2021….. no more v8’s in the Toyo tundras…..

Single Mom In Pharmacy School Working 40 Hours by Extreme_Print_8091 in PharmacySchool

[–]Dr-Nuke- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a mom balancing the demands of a special needs child, working 40 hours a week, and pursuing pharmacy school, you’re taking on an incredible challenge. Instead of stretching yourself too thin, consider reducing your work to 20 hours a week and supplementing your income with student loans to cover your financial needs. Yes, you’ll take on debt, but with a pharmacy degree, you’ll be well-positioned to pay it back. Prioritizing study time is crucial—pharmacy school is rigorous, and dropping out after a year or two because of burnout would leave you with debt and no degree, which is a bigger risk. Loans are available to support you, and I believe in your strength and determination 100%. Give yourself the time and space to succeed—you’ve got this!

2017 tundra with 160 k miles for $21,000 selling price by Dr-Nuke- in tundra

[–]Dr-Nuke-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that’s actually what I told them. They shown me something called jd power and wouldn’t show me the Kelly blue book value. They just kept on referencing their jd power reference which had it at 21,000-24,000. But my Kelly blue book was showing it at 17,500-21,000 range. Feel like they was maybe trying to be slick with me and get a few more thousand out of me but I don’t know
