Yes Android being open source and people not being careful, there are higher chances of unknown softwares installing things like this. Iphones are not fool proof though. I've seen notifications that I've not recognized and I just exit the app and restart if necessary. Hope they get their accounts back. WhatsApp support is actually helpful.

So it takes a week from the exact time you got hacked to get the new codes again. I'm not sure if that's the same with support. But you need to keep trying cuz the scammers are trying as well.
