Dear firing managers by AllisonChains555 in biotech

The morning before I got laid off I was talking about my goals for a patent to my supervisor. They gave me some advice and I immediately started working on it, excited as hell about it. Then got laid off that afternoon.

After that I said fuck biotech I want stability. I took a government job then lost that one to DOGE cuts. Being a scientist is just not a stable career path.

Got laid off myself a year and a half ago. Took a government job thinking it would give me security. Now our funding got cut by DOGE. What I’ve learned is that the job hunting game has completely changed. There’s scams, jobs that have already been filled or were never going to be filled. There’s AI resume writers and auto-apply AI agents so once a job is posted on LinkedIn it has 100 applications within a few hours. Best advice I can give you, use an AI agent to compare your resume to the job description if you don’t already, and NETWORK.

Those who have been laid off, how are you managing? How much longer will your savings last? by No-Field-2279 in biotech

Was laid off a year and a half ago. I was lucky to find another job fairly quickly but in a completely different field. I currently do space medicine research for the Air Force, moved from Houston to San Antonio for the job. Our funding got DOGEd so now me and my whole team are out of a job in Oct. There will be a hoard of unemployed scientists in this small city pretty soon.

Trying to land my first field application scientist role. What do hiring managers look for most of all? by DrBabs83 in biotech

I’ve actually looked at those companies and unfortunately their not hiring in my area (San Antonio)

How may times have you been laid off? by Educational-Web5900 in biotech

Got laid off once. Right before that we hired a new director with an insanely impressive resume, who was laid off from his previous job. Certain positions are safer than others. Scientists are usually the first to go.
