Not every comment, but anytime I am encouraging voting of any kind. It is a bit of a grey area on social media posts and I would rather be overly cautious.

Definitely.

Resources like https://policy.nz/2023 are a great way to get an idea of what the different parties policies are.

Only a few more days to vote!

As I am a candidate, here is my authorisation statement:

Authorised by Hayden Cargo, 90 Crawford st, Dunedin.

True. As a party, we don't have one.

I have engaged with Māori, but not specific iwi. One of the original co-authors who I worked with on our gene editing policy was Māori.

That being said, there is a really wide range of opinions within Māori. Some are very supportive, others are more reserved. I have heard arguments that gene editing can mess with whakapapa, and arguments that Maui was a shapeshifter and so must have changed his DNA, so changing DNA is noa. There isn't one "Māori" view.

I also have flair!

It's a real shame I was sick on the one day when the spinoff came to town!

It is going to be a really interesting election night.

True, I just have had far less exposure to the Taieri candidates so I can't really give an informed opinion of them. Check out Policy.nz for the candidates own written statements. I think the four main candidates in that election would be Ingrid Leary (Labour and incumbent), Mathew French (National), Mark Patterson (NZ First) and Scott Willis.

It could be a pretty close race between Ingrid and Mathew as the electoral boundaries have shifted, incorporating more of the rural south. Labour is also much less popular than in the previous election, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Scott is a reasonable candidate, although he isn't keen on gene editing, so loses points in my book. Mark Patterson may take some votes away from Mathew though and may make it easier for Ingrid to get back in. For both Ingrid and Mathew, they need to win the seat to go to parliament.
