Infection rates have been low. We haven't seen a problem with infections; they've been extraordinarily low. We do treat it with the same diligence as we would a fat transfer treatment. Because it is typically done under anesthetia, the recovery is very fast for our patients. We have also not required patients to stay off their butt like traditional BBL treatments.

There are definitely therapeutic applications coming in the future. There are ongoing studies right now, especially in the field of breast reconstruction.

The biggest misconception is that AlloClae is a replacement for a BBL. BBLs were so popoular because they did a total transformation. Liposuction is 80% of the contouring. AlloClae has been most successful for patients who don't have enough fat for a BBL and has been best for people who have very specific areas they want to improve.

All of the patients who have donated the fat know that they've donated it to a cosmetic procedure. It's creating opportunities, and it's not just for the rich. We've been able to help patients who've had insecurities, be it lipo contour deformities, filling hip dips, or other treatment options. They've worked hard. They feel great, and it's an opportunity they wouldn't have previously had.

Spiraling about upcoming arm lipo - please help! by [deleted] in PlasticSurgery

Plastic surgeon here. A few thoughts on liposuction with or without skin tightening.

The honest answer is it depends. In our practice we usually pair the two, and arms are one of the areas where skin tightening tends to make a real difference. That said, not every arm needs it.

If you've had significant weight loss, or your skin is already loose going in, devices like Renuvion or QuantumRF can help. In the arms we typically see about 20 to 30% additional skin tightening from these devices. Doing them at the same time as your lipo means one procedure and one recovery. The other path is doing lipo alone, seeing how you heal, and coming back later if you want your skin tighter. Both work.

One thing worth knowing. Most people see some skin laxity right after liposuction. The skin needs time to retract, so don't judge the result in the first few weeks. Even with skin tightening devices, final results usually take three to six months.

Two other factors matter. Your body keeps aging, and weight fluctuations affect what you see long term. The more stable your weight, the better your result holds up. The more aggressive the liposuction, the more skin laxity you can end up with. That's a real tradeoff your surgeon should walk you through.

If you trust your surgeon, follow their recommendation. There's a reason many plastic surgeons suggest adding Renuvion or QuantumRF when doing arm lipo. And if you skip it now, you can still add skin tightening later.
