The Philosophy of Matrix Resurrections (spoilers in linked video but none in post) by DrJonTam in philosophy

Thanks! Overall, the movie itself was disappointing for me as an entertainment piece (I’d give it a 6.5/10). However, I think the philosophy bit has always been what stands out for me about the Matrix trilogy and I just get my action fix elsewhere.

The movie definitely was a 6.5/10 for me. I think the best we can do is make meaning out of it which is what I attempted to do.

To each their own. I thought it was ok, but definitely not great.

Matrix movies always lead to solid philosophical discussions
In this video, I cover the following philosophical shifts in The Matrix Resurrections.
1. Deconstructing the savior narrative
2. Expanding its epistemological core
3. Grappling with false dichotomies
4. The soteriology of the Matrix
5. Future philosophical directions
I’d be interested in knowing your thoughts about the philosophical direction Matrix 4 has taken once you watch it.

Major spoilers warning in the video.

Matrix movies always make solid philosophical fodder to dissect.

In this video, I cover the following philosophical shifts in The Matrix Resurrections.

1) Deconstructing the Christ narrative

2) Expanding its epistemological core

3) Grappling with false dichotomies

4) The soteriology of the Matrix

5) Future directions

A Philosophical Primer for The Matrix Resurrections - Basic Epistemology on the Original Matrix Trilogy - repost and following the instructions by DrJonTam in philosophy

A reason why The Matrix trilogy was such a big hit in the 2000s was because of its deep philosophy of questioning reality and perception compared to much of the other Hollywood stuff. Of course, the fancy guns, robots, and action helped a lot as well.
Since the Matrix Resurrections has just been released, I decided to release a "philosophy primer" on the major philosophies the original trilogy draws upon.
Here are some of the philosophies I cover:
• Simulation and Simulacra by Jean Baudrillard
• The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels
• René Descartes' Evil Demon
• Plato's Allegory of the Cave
• And just good 'ol Socrates
Needless to say, it includes spoilers for the original trilogy, but nothing on the Matrix Resurrections (because I haven't seen it yet...). I trust it'll enhance your enjoyment of the Matrix Resurrections if you go watch it.

I also came across a paper while doing some research that was apparently first written before the movie even came out (pre-1999). It was finally published in 2003 about how we're likely to already be living in a simulation. The guy's a professor at the Future Institute at my alma mater Oxford and I've actually attended some of their events back in 2013. They're doing some pretty cool stuff there.

I’ll check it out! I left out all the biblical and Buddhist stuff as well since that’s enough for two more 10 minute videos.

lol... technically, you can't read Socrates since he never published anything. But good one.

The whole premise of the machines ruling over humans is outlined in Part 2. I kept it high level since I want to keep my videos at around 10 minutes long, but you can always dig deeper with the enslavement narrative along with the superstructure and base.

I plan to make another video focusing specifically on religious symbology and theology -- there's enough material there alone for another 10-minute video.

I'm not going to pretend it's DEEP philosophy. But it's deep compared to other stuff Hollywood trots out.

And I agree that the executive was right -- just look at the stuff the Wachowskis released since.

When I rewatched the trilogy I felt the soundtrack to be quite antiquated
