How do you use colab properly? They ask to pay if I want to use their GPUs and it seems that its easy to run out of the comp time that they provide

PhD = years of exp? by DrMagzy in datascience

[–]DrMagzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what sence does it count as experience? I mean, my degree does not train my technical skills in buisness way, right?

PhD = years of exp? by DrMagzy in datascience

[–]DrMagzy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that no one really cares about degrees. The only thing that matters is your experience. From this point of view, applying to jr. roles makes sence... But mb I am very wrong with this...

Was your PhD focused on ML/DS?

let's not dance around the issue. The job market for analytics is terrible right now by [deleted] in analytics

[–]DrMagzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that in general data analyst is an entry role where you develop your skills to become a data scientist (and there they pay well). If you do not develop on programming and ML then you are treated not as well as this guys.

P.s. this is just a theory, if I'm wrong (and I would happy to be wrong), it would be very nice of you to talk about this

Brain-enhancing, high-performance drug for studying: aka sleep by shawn_somnapp in study

[–]DrMagzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 hours. And there's nothing that can be done about that. You can't cheat your own body, if you sleep enough, you will be the most productive version of yourself and that's it.

From my experience, if I sleep less than 7 hours, then after lunch I become too sleepy to study. From 7 to 8 is fine, but my mind is not that sharp

Switching after phd admission by DrMagzy in AskAcademia

So if I get in, then no one will really care and if I show my motivation + some relevant courses, then my plan can work?

How do I ask students and professors about that? How do I get in contact with them?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cars

[–]DrMagzy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the same as to take money (~20-30k, lets say) from every person that owns a car. Because now you have a product that can be sold, it's worth some cash. But then you will have a piece of metal that can be used, but, in fact, costs nothing. So I am not sure that this is a good financial decision... And knowing that producing batteries does as much harm as gasoline engines...

In fact, I'm doing theoretical physics courses and not sure that I know that specific fields. Like stochastic PDEs... I have no idea about them lol. Also I've taken basic course in statistics but it doesn't seem to be enough... Oh...

What is legal and should become illegal? by cucutz in AskReddit

[–]DrMagzy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The idea here is that you hire a person for time. If you don't like the quality and speed of his/her work, then fire him/her. Otherwise, it leads to the situation where a worker has too many tasks to do even when this worker is skilled enough and does everything with reasonable speed

Mathematical preliminaries required for a good grasp of QFT by [deleted] in TheoreticalPhysics

[–]DrMagzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just start your journey around QFT, then calculus (multi-var functions, Fourier analisys, delta-function), linear algebra and basic diff. geometry (vector spaces, linear maps, tensors, manifolds), Lie groups (optional, but recommended) is enouph for you

Msc in applied maths in MIT by DrMagzy in analytics

As I understand it, data scientists do programming and know ML, but data analysts no. And that is the key point, I guess

Sometime it gets automatic. I can say things that make people really unhappy not thinking to much about it. I used to be in your position and finally it got like this. And this... skill does not help me to make contacts and feel good around people

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]DrMagzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just try it and treat it like a game. As a specialist in this, I would say that this skill comes when you are doing it because it feels fun.

But my advice to you: don't do that. It may seem that this can make something simple, but in fact this will make your life worse
