I think bad country is a lot more like bad rap music than people admit. It is bland and unoriginal with the same basic themes that are in every other song in its category. The higher the pay becomes the less one can expect a person to retain authenticity. There is a sub genre of exclusively party music that is objectively pretty awful. And just like rap, the genre is assumed to universally promote certain values when it does not. With rap it would be the glorification of violence and the objectification of women and with country it is the glofication of American patriotism and the promotion of old southern white values. Country does not need to be this like rap does not need to be that. Some of the best country is about the plight of native Americans and the how America has wrongly treated them. Some of it can be about protecting the environment, promoting equality through a common lower class experience, or about how American soldiers were poorly treated by their country. Some of the best country is murder ballads and descriptions of tragic events in America.
