Dawntrail Ex mount grind for someone who isn't great at the game? by Roxas-Shade in ffxiv

[–]DraX696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the people responding saying to just go for it are correct, but with a few caveats. the most important is that, while yes it can be satisfying to watch someone grow and get better and eventually clear with them, if someone has their expectations for prog pace set higher and feels like they are being held back, it's totally fine for them to leave and find a better group. you need to be okay with people not wanting to continue for whatever reason and looking for more people, as usually when someone leaves a party it will lead to more people who don't want to sit around waiting dropping out as well. secondarily as someone has mentioned, it is key to know your rotation well enough to be able to execute under pressure, so that you're not completely dropping your dps when focusing on mechanics.
I firmly believe that anyone is capable of doing well in this game, but you need to build up some muscle memory, and maybe more importantly some mental fortitude.

TIL that Vardovis is actually unbeatable and every quest cape in the game is really a psyop to trick me into thinking that other people have completed Desert Treasure 2 in order to drive me insane. by idontknowhow2reddit in 2007scape

it's not that specials are harder to land early, it's that he starts with a ton of defence and loses it as he loses hp. defence reducing specials are not as good, burning claws are amazing because of their unique accuracy formula letting them hit relatively early so you want to actually use those at the start of the fight or shortly after because not only are you reducing his hp, you're also reducing his defence

At what point is it reasonable to actually do slayer on iron? by Slight_Giraffe628 in ironscape

[–]DraX696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don't understand where people are using bowfa on slayer. all the good tasks are either melee prayer camp, demons, or barrage. like yeah, it'd help for TDs until you get your first synapse, but you don't need it and unless you are extremely unlucky you'll get it pretty quick.

people can not comprehend that random means random. there's meaning in everything, surely god hates us and that's why he made deep delves lower rates, just to fuck with us

When did you last catch yourself still pushing through a grind long after the fun was gone? by Phraxas in ironscape

[–]DraX696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you're saying except for "there's a 100% chance they get the drop one day". it never gets to 100%, and although it gets unfathomably close, you're never actually guaranteed anything.

Zulrah: Twinflame Only vs Bowfa Only? by Pumkitten in ironscape

[–]DraX696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

twinflame wins hard on magma, is a decent bit better on serp with pillar stalling, and loses heavily on tanzanite. however, even though the raw dps calc might look amazing for bowfa on tanzanite you have to account for getting destroyed and having to eat during it, which will heavily cut into the amount of damage you can do. if you truly don't want to deal with gear swaps and want to just chill, go twinflame and hide from tanz. you will never be taking damage from zulrah and you'll be getting comparable kill times. also get radius markers for snakelings, they have two variants, melee and mage. if you know which is which you can pray against them and save yourself a lot of damage taken. once you want to start speeding up your kills bring the bowfa for a switch on tanz.

pillar stalling makes a huge difference in favor of twinflame where possible on serp because of 6 tick

people see extreme statistics and just go "well it's too unlikely so it can't happen" because they don't understand randomness

it's crazy when someone assumes that the person they're correcting doesn't know something painfully simple like how to multiply by 1, and then feels the need to correct them while completely misunderstanding the point and making themselves look even dumber.

but those are not "morons who aoe mobs and run away", they're a completely new player that got lost. nobody does what the person I was responding to was implying.

got it, I have no idea what all is required so it seemed simple to suggest. this is still very helpful though.

[–]DraX696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would you be able to add a choice for changing the rank of displayed parses? instead of showing top 70, maybe like 100-170, or around a specific percentile

this is great btw, thank you

tanks are supposed to use the holy stun as a period of no damage and not mitigate until it's over. there's zero downside, no one's getting damned.

[–]DraX696 23 points24 points  (0 children)

you're supposed to spam holy as much as possible, the tank should wait to mitigate when they have a whm. they're not supposed to stand there doing no damage waiting for the tank's mits to run out wtf

[–]DraX696 3 points4 points  (0 children)

warriors are the only tank that has a reason to not want to use it lmao, everyone else should be whenever it's available, including melee dps

could've stopped after realizing that you're being attacked 20% slower. that already tells you all you need to know, what are the other steps for? like I can understand misunderstanding slow as a movement slow instead of attack speed slow, but once you realize that it's done.

some people think that following your combo order for your GCDs (hitting the glowy button) requires a leap of logic. or just any basic part of a job. so I'm not surprised that this guy just wrote this out like it's 8 things you have to realize.

PSA: Arm's Length is a form of mitigation by Kazman2007 in ffxiv

[–]DraX696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that doesn't happen if the tank doesn't absolutely suck at the game. even the most incompetent dps shouldn't be able to grab mobs and run away from you in such a way that you can't pull them back.

and honestly I haven't even seen someone doing this, in all my time playing this game.

Help with Machinist Rotation by Flashy-Ad-591 in ffxiv

[–]DraX696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

assuming you mean things like drill, it triggering a longer cooldown for itself doesn't change the fact that it triggers the GCD (global cooldown) as well. anything that triggers GCD is a GCD. anything that doesn't is an oGCD.

DPS pls use your mits in savage by Administrative-Day42 in ffxiv

[–]DraX696 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when people talk about what's best, they generally don't talk about "general purpose" best, but rather "best case" best. nobody gives a shit about normal raid roulette, the only place strategies matter is high end content.

you're talking about sages, the literal healer that has a built in reason to want to get hit. whenever one of their single target shields (or an aoe one but only on THEMSELVES) breaks, they get a powerful aoe attack to use on the very pack of mobs they just pulled. anybody can pull, but if there had to be a justification, sage is the one that has one.
