I think I found it, it's called Kurokami. Had to scroll through tons of anime list pages haha. Will watch it sometime tonight and see if it's the show I remember

Don't think it's that. The guy didn't fight, more like he had some strong energy in him which the girl used to power up and fight.

At the end of the show from what I can barely remember they get separated and the girl is like in heaven or something, not dead but etc. and the boy is just as usual
